As you know, the show was always on the verge of cancellation, so they never knew if they were gonna come back for another season. This finale makes that more evident, with Greendale actually being a metaphor for the whole show. And in the end, NBC actually cancelled Community, which was later picked up by the now defunct Yahoo Screen
