Something i never understood is how the whistle ended up down there in the pit. She said she lost it 133 days ago, she found it right before she got kidnapped?

The mother tells you what happened during the hospital scene at the end of the movie but yes, Joy and Anna found the whistle right before they got kidnapped.

So glad to see you loved this. I also have it in my personal top 10 favorite films. I love the quiet, eerie vibe and feeling of some of the shots in this film. The acting and the story definitely are what's noticed the most obviously cuz they're amazing but I think the cinematography and score aren't talked about enough for how much they contribute to the uneasy, thriller feeling of the film.
