Not quite a parody, not quite an homage... It inhabits some kind of in between space, but it did open the door to "Scary Movie" and others since, also, I hope you don't close the door on "Silence of the Lambs" at the end of October thinking it's a horror movie in the same genre as this, it's more of a psychological thriller instead

lol that guy watching Halloween, his real life name is Jamie Kennedy, so it's extra meta and funny that he's yelling at the TV "Turn around, Jamie! Come on, Jamie! just turn around!" Also Wes Craven, directed this AND Nightmare on Elm Street. and that was HIM dressed up as Freddy, being the janitor, making a super meta cameo. I highly recommend another great Wes Craven slasher flick that hardly anyone talks about as much and that's My Soul To Take.
