Yeah Isaiah is indeed a character in the comics. He was one of many black soldiers the govt experimented the super soldier serum on, but one of the only ones that survived the experiment. So they were testing the super soldier program on black soldiers before they knew how it would affect people, causing casualties, and eventually when they perfected the serum they ended up giving it to Steve. This is an allegory to the real life experiments our own US government did to poor black Americans called the Tuskegee Experiments. They lied and told the participants that it was for free healthcare, which the participants never got, instead they were injected with syphilis. The purpose of the experiment was to observe the natural history of untreated syphilis. Wild shit.

All the Marvel shows thus far are completely different; Wandavision put marvel characters into classic American sitcoms while doing a deep dive into a woman confronting grief while here, they are actually putting their stones on the table and digging into America’s historical abuse of black people in the military. Isaiah Bradley might have Cap’s serum but he wasn’t treated as a hero, he was treated as a dirty secret and we’re gonna get more on this subject Notably, the show runner, Malcolm Spellman, a black man, straight up said that in the writer’s room they posted Killmonger’s speech from Black Panther on the wall as a reminder that he was RIGHT, even if his methods were wrong. Ep 1 gave us a glimpse in the bank scene; Isaiah’s scene put it on the table. No matter where these stories go, though, all these marvel shows have some phenomenal performances across the board. Bucky and Sam are dripping with chemistry and we haven’t even gotten to the good stuff. This is one area the show absolutely nails. The guy at the end is Zemo - we met him in Captain America: Civil War.

Zemo is my favorite part of this little series. I'd rather have had a Zemo series actually. Not that this is bad, but... it's just sort of a typical action type show. I've seen a lot of that, so it would take a lot to get me excited. WandaVision and Loki are reaching me on a much deeper level. I'll rewatch both of those multiple times. This one... it's cool. I enjoyed it alright. Probably won't watch it again though.

They talk about the effects of the blip in the Avengers Endgame movie, especially in those group therapy scenes with Captain America and Black Widows emotional survivors guilt. Although it was a sad time as many people lost loved ones, it provided an opportunity for people to come together and support one another. Society was more collectivist rather than individualistic. If anything, it was more chaotic once people returned as government scrambled to get people their old jobs & homes back, but when you give to some, you disadvantage others. You had a whole world that for 5 years adapted to 50% less of the population with no expectation of seeing those people again, to now scrambling to provide services and assistance.

To be fair, Walker never asked to be in the position he is in. The government made him Captain America so he’s just trying to follow his duty.
