The original cut of this movie is what most people have seen, and that version isn’t very good. The cut you watched is the version that I would say is good. Definitely not as good as the original two, but still pretty enjoyable.

In the version I watched they literally just show the text of all the other survivors dead besides Ripley (from aliens) at the start of the film. And from what I recall in the original you hardly learn anything about the other characters, so after knowing Ripley was probably gonna die, I was just waiting for the movie to end, and the alien to kill everyone

The original version had the alien burst out of a dog, and that dog was indeed alive :( But generally, this version seems to be quite better than the original cut. Not as good as the first two movies but still good. Fourth movie is where it starts to get a bit more bumpy, but it can still be enjoyable. Looking forward to the Predator series. Then there is Alien vs Predator movies, too. Hope you get to them all eventually, would be cool to see :) While they might not be the best, there are some really dope fight scenes between alien and predator and imo it is worth it even if for those alone. And finally, Alien: Isolation (videogame) to spice things up :) That game is intense. Really captures the feel of the original first Alien movie and it even has a small DLC (Crew Expendable I think) where you literally go and redo the movie scene with Dallas where you go into the vents. That part is incredible.
