One difference in action scenes between old and new movies is that in the old ones everything is real, and actually dangerous to the people involved in the scenes. Explosions, fires, floods, etc. Maybe that's why you're enjoying the old action scenes. I'm not saying literally everything was real, so don't roast me, people. There's a Quentin Tarantino film from 2007 called Death Proof about a psycho, and his car. None of the car stunts are CGI. It's got car crashes, and crazy stunts like I had never seen.
