This is the movie where the fandom broke. The Force Awakens, while a rehash of Episode 4, was pretty well received by long time fans if I remember correctly. But after this it never was the same.

McLovin

Rian Johnson has done some of my fav movies of all time but this one is not good at all.

Kevin

IMO, this is the second best star wars movie after Empire.

McLovin

how the fu+k did leia not die, bro this makes no sence

Ninjaoninja2

Yeah. My thoughts are the exact same as yours in regards to the last Jedi. It ranks last on my list of Star Wars movies I enjoy, it has little “moments” of Star Wars, but idk, I feel like it deviated too far from the Skywalker saga, even though this trilogy was touted as the real end after 6. Now I will say 9 is similar to 8, but it seems like lost people either really don’t like it or do. I loved 9, but it wasn’t enough for me to go “This is a better ending then return of the Jedi” return of the Jedi 1-6, is still just a better ending imo. But as always I know you go into each movie pretty open-minded so I can’t wait to see your thoughts on 9. I’d recommend you check out The Mandolorian (TV show on Disney+) after you get some other movies and series over with.

Ian Mossner

This is hands down the best Star Wars film. The Force Awakens is unoriginal and characters like Poe have no development. This film actually gives development to its characters.

Daniel R

I actually kinda liked this movie, more than the Force Awakens. Nothing in TFA mattered in TLJ, Rian Johnson basically told JJ Abrams to fuck off with his fanboy bullshit but the only problem with that is, now they spent 2.5 hours of doing NOTHING in this movie which does nothing to set up for the final movie. BUT, as a standalone movie I kinda like it. It has some interesting ideas but as being a part of the Skywalker Story? What a load of shit. Interested to see how you feel about the next one, I absolutely hate that one.

Ian Mossner

It not being like the other Star Wars films is why it is the best Star Wars film

Ian Mossner

The skywalker saga bullshit didn’t start until episode 9. Rian Johnson didn’t have any responsibility to make the film that fans wanted.

RX2904

Like it or not, in my opinion killing the main hero of the original saga off was a major mistake. For millions of people Luke Skywalker was THE character of Star Wars. Not only that but Mark Hamill is also the only SW actor who really embraced the franchise and gave everything for the fans. In the past as well as in the present. He deserved so much more than this. After running away like a coward Johnson gave him a death by exhaustion. Give me a break. No wonder Hamill was more than unhappy with this decision.

Deadpool

I honestly like this movie it just never feels comfortable talking about it with anyone because everyone has such strong opinions about Star Wars

Anonymous

I completely 100% share the same feeling for this film as you do. Some moments were good, but just a lot of bad moments. Visually the film is amazing. But the story and script just wasn't flushed out. It didn't feel like a Star Wars movie. Episode 7 and even Episode 9 felt like Star Wars movies. I'm sure others feel different and that is fine.

Ian Mossner

Mark Hamill has actually changed his mind on the things he previously said. Also it’s funny you Luke fanboys don’t realize that the Luke you wanted was the same Luke he was at the end of the film. Johnson just chose to give him character development. Something he never had before.

Ninjaoninja2

Oof, major disagree here. Poe's storyline felt really forced with Holdo, she was a real jerk and had she communicated with her team instead of floating her rank around none of that would've happened. I hear people say all the time "she didn't have to tell Poe" well actually yeah, she did, and she should have told everyone. A good leader communicates with their team to make sure everybody understands. Rey had little to no character development (No training, no answers on her lineage, and no explainations whatsoever.) While not all Jedi have to come from some lineage to be super powerful they have to have some reason (set by Lucas himself), the whills maybe, or a heavily trained character, and even if you are from a strong lineage, you don't just get everything at once. Big nope on my part. Finn and Rose was a straight deviation from what JJ setup in TFA, and again felt very backhanded. TFA wasn't perfect, but, imo, pushed the plot lines much farther, like Kylo Ren killing his father, that was deep and dark and it obviously had consequences for him. Finn leaving the first order and beginning his journey with the resistance, and helping Rey, standing up for what's right. Finn had probably the most development in TFA and TLJ. Rey even got moved along with the visions and everything she saw, there was a purpose for her character which TLJ seemed to strip imo. She went to Ach-Too to train with Luke, only to have to try to convince him 99% of the movie to do it, I'm sorry I don't like watching a drawn out, boring, repetitive argument about 2/4's of a movie. Like I said, I agree with ItsAPrimate, I think there's some good moments, but overall for me, it wasn't a good solid, strong star wars movie. TFA was no where near perfect, but I can overlook some of it's imperfections because it did a better job imo.

Ian Mossner

You want the same old same old bullshit and this film actually chose to be different. We live in a sad world honestly.

Agent Jack Stone

Hahahahaha, when Luke chucked his lightsaber I cracked up in the theater, but the poor guy next to me reacted the same way you did. Hahahahahaha. And I agree, the Finn Rose story line was wasted space.

Paul Pinto

I really don’t understand the Rey training critiques people have, to be honest. We’re literally shown in TFA that she’s been fending for herself since she was abandoned as a child. The way she handedly takes down the guys trying to beat up on her with her stick and Finns reaction says it all. She knows how to defend herself. Two, Luke had... what training, exactly? A few minutes with a laser ball and a blast shield? The end result is he blows up the Death Star. It’s The Force at work. The whole title of TFA references the force awakening in Rey. I feel like the most angry people on this subject have some misogynistic tendencies going on there. If Rey were a dude, you can’t convince me people wouldn’t constantly bring it up. I’m not accusing you of that, primate, but I just hate to see those ideas previously implanted in your head before you sat down to watch these.

Anonymous

I truly feel like a lot of things that went wring in The Last Jedi is fixed in The Rise Of Skywalker. its a lot more fun, there's a lot more evidence of why Rey is strong with the force, it's definitely her movie so you'll enjoy it HOPEFULLY. also (not a spoiler because it's not mentioned in the next movie) but there is a time jump of around a year from this movie to the next. You'll see alot more growth and it definitely feels a lot more like a Star Wars movie. IMO, the next movie makes this movie look mallet better because it connect the dots with a lot of things.

Anonymous

I’m not going to comment on the same battle over this movie and the sequels that’s been going on for years. I’m in the same boat as you primate. I like 7 a lot I think this one was visually good but just too many similarities to the other movies. I like episode 9 it’s (IN MY OPINION) better than 7, so I’m really looking forward to your reaction of that and R1 and Solo. Hate that I have to wait a week to see your next one though!

Paul Pinto

I had a really big post written up that has somehow disappeared, so I’m going to attempt to summarize it because I’m too pissed to do the whole thing over again: The Last Jedi’s major theme is failure. Luke fails, Poe fails, Finn fails (by attempting to run away), he and Roses mission completely fails, etc. that’s the point. Your heroes aren’t perfect, they’re human beings. This is what made people uncomfortable regarding Luke, whom they regard as their childhood Jedi God. Poe has for me the best character arc in the film. Holdo had every right to deny him information just as Leia has every right to demote him. He literally disobeyed a direct order and got half the fleet killed. Only sheer luck bailed him out. In the end, he matures and is a better leader for it. Also Holdo thought there was a spy on board, hence not blabbering out her ultimate plan for everyone in earshot to know.

Also a lot of people complain that Rey's OP but that's not exactly true because they're living in different times. Obi, Wan and Anakin were very good with lightsabers and the force because they were trained and educated when the Jedi were at their most highest. Whereas, Rey exists in a period of where you have to go with your instinct, it's all more raw power, she's also had to fend for herself all her life and you got a lot more reasoning why she's QUITE powerful in the next movie hopefully. As for Rey defeating Kylo in TFA, he was obviously unbalanced, they also have quite a weird 'connection' you could say and he was also quite injured. Nevertheless, hopefully you've already seen TROS so you could give us a hint of what you're initial reaction is!!!!!!!

Anonymous

i miss Anakin

Anonymous

I hated the Finn and rose plot line, I felt it was too long. in Star Wars, you wanna see the main gang go on adventures together and I feel the next one captures that essence really well compared to this one.

Anonymous

you'll also see why Snoke was the way he was. Kylo asking Rey join him is a perfect mirroring of Padme and Anakin. I loved it.

Anonymous

ahaha you really hit the nail on the head with this reaction man. I think most Star Wars fans share the same reaction and thoughts as you did here, as did I. Disney did a horrible job connecting plot lines and executing ideas. These movies as stand-alones might be good but as STAR WARS movies this shit is so scuffed LMAO you'll probably be just as confused by the end of 9 as you are now at the end of 8 xD

Why am I getting a playback error?

Daniel R

Next movie is a complete mess as it tries to fix the mistakes of this one while trying to set up its own finale. It's funny to watch because nothing about it makes any sense at all, but they'll throw fanservice in your face to try and distract you.

Anonymous

Love this movie, and I’m tryin to watch it but I’m getting a playback error

Daniel Chavez

This is the worst Star Wars out of all of them in my opinion haha fun enough to watch. This trilogy really got screwed cause JJ Abrams didnt direct all 3. I think he had some family stuff going on, and you can tell the director of this one had a WAY different idea than JJ. The third one is a lot better I think!

Anonymous

Loved the reaction. I gotta say I love the last Jedi. Agree with you on the Rose and Finn storyline. But everything with Luke I loved this film is about failure and how we can learn from it. This film cemented Kylo as my favourite character of the new trilogy and no spoilers but the next film cements Kylo as one of my favourite characters in Star wars period.

Anonymous

agreed! episode 9 if anything makes this one look slightly better by connecting all the dotes and not wasting time on people who are slightly irrelevant

Jay2

I wanna watch but its not letting me. Says something about playback error. Anyone else with the same issue?

zell

Yh I got that as well I had to download it to watch it

Sabrina Sibosado

I definitely think Kylo had the best, well developed character arc, he was one of my favourites for sure

Tony Tenser

The Finn and Rose subplot i just find boring as hell and it really is superfluous to because it really doesn't achieve a result in the long run. The Luke/Rey/Kylo elements of the film are what i really like.

Paris Hardy

Ooh boy. Just by the number of comments on this one, I knew it was gonna be jumping. In my humble opinion this is one of my favorite Star Wars films. I come back to watch this one as much as Revenge & Return. Yes , I loved & grew up with the prequels, & yes I adore the OT . I loved how the Force was expanded upon in TLJ. It feels part & parcel like some of the mind bending stuff we’d see in Clone Wars. I loved how Luke called out the folly of the Jedi Council & how they failed Anakin, & in turn, how he failed his sister, nephew, & best friend. In the end he realized his mistake in turning his back on the Force & returned to stand as the Luke Skywalker we remembered. My biggest gripe with the movie is Finn & Rose’s storyline. Finn should have been with Rey going to find Luke.

Kambo

shiiiiiiit, i cant watch it!

Rainmaker203

The initial response to the film was very divided (just a 56% audience score, but many of the positive reviews being a 10/10), so it's no surprise this comment section is heated. Rian Johnson got what he wanted. He is on public record saying he would rather make a divisive film many people loved and many people hated, than a film everyone enjoyed. Wish granted.

Paul Pinto

One last thing, a major thing to understand about Star Wars was said perfectly by the creator himself, George Lucas. “It’s like poetry, it rhymes”. People made fun of him for this, but he’s absolutely right regarding his own story. TLJ isn’t the first to demonstrate history repeating itself in ways both subtle and more obvious. This is intentional. It’s not Rian Johnson trying to rip off another movie.

Chandler Petty

Not to mention the awful scene of leia flying through space. I also hated what they did to luke. The original trilogy was all about how he matured into a wise and powerful Jedi. Now all of that is gone. My childhood hero has turned from a awesome powerful Jedi to a bum. You could probably imagine why this film was received so badly. Fans who had been fans their whole life and been waiting for this movie for years got this. Also, something I hate, they never actually tell you anything else about snoke, where he came from. It’s so dumb. They say a little bit about it in the 9th one but nothing is really made clear. Disney just wanted to make these films for the money. It straight up destroys the whole point of anakin being the chosen one and doesn’t fit into the universe.

Mariela Oquendo Rodríguez

9 is great, the problem with this one was the change of director this one did what he wanted without thinking about the consequences JJ Abrams has to work with what was left to do the 9 one and he did a pretty good job given the circumstances...

The last Jedi is the worst Star Wars film out of the entire saga. There is just so much I hate about this movie. The whole your momma joke between Poe and Hux at the start was like, are we in planet earth or in Star Wars? Then bombs dropping in outer space even though gravity is not present. Leia doing the Superman move was fucking ridiculous. Contrary to what you think, primate, I dislike how Luke was treated in this movie. I think The Force awakens is meh, but at least it got me excited to see Luke, especially regarding the lightsaber. That lightsaber is not just a random saber, that lightsaber has a story. It was Anakin’s. With that lightsaber he chopped mace windu’s hand off, killed younglings, betraying the Jedi, killed the separatists and with that lightsaber he fought obi wan in mustafar. It was also with that lightsaber that Luke fought Vader in episode 5. Then Luke just throws it off a cliff like it’s nothing ???!!! Bitch wtf? No emotions, no memories? After that event I was fucking done. The reason he isolated himself from the Galaxy was because of Kylo Ren. As much as I like Kylo, and I do think he needed to be the main character in this trilogy, he was a whinny bitch compared to Darth Vader. How the hell did Luke sense the good in Vader, a Sith Lord, one of the most feared man in the galaxy, but can not sense the good in Kylo? He’s certainly more conflicted than Vader was. To me, the way Luke was depicted was Bullcrap. Also we do not want to see a Jedi master milk a cow looking creature, like WTF! I hate Holdo so much. If she told Poe what the plan was, we wouldn’t have to fucking waste time seeing Finn and Rose go to Canto Bight. Speaking of that, the whole stuff between Finn and Rose is awful, enough said. The whole stuff with Chewbacca and R2D2 is good. That part where R2 plays that Leia message from episode 4 is fucking amazing.. You know, Rey is a Mary Sue. In episode 7 she did a ton of shit for someone who learned about the force 5 minutes ago. Now she’s levitating big ass rocks. With Luke, he struggled to levitate small rocks in episode 5, and he was being trained by fucking Yoda, the OG. Who trains Rey to levitate stuff? Nobody! You see, this whole trilogy is based on feminism, yeah that’s right, fuck you Kathleen Kennedy! I have no problem with female Jedi, but Rey is just too fucking OP! No training required. All because of feminist agenda... Rey, Leia, Holdo, examples of feminism.. moving on, so after the Force awakens, we all wanted more background on Snoke, how he got to power, how he got Kylo to be his apprentice. What did we get as an answer? A big middle finger from RiAn jOhNsOn. All this build up, for what? Snoke died like a bitch, like that, he’s fucking gone. Then Rey and Kylo broke the saber in half! So, is that how the skywalker lightsaber ends??! Cut in half! In every Star Wars movie there is a lightsaber duel, no matter how trash it is. But in this movie we get 0. Luke should have showed up. The whole hologram Luke thing is awful. I hate how he fights Kylo as a hologram. Then Luke fucking dies. Why??? No explanation at all. And like that the legendary Luke Skywalker is gone. Before all of that, the scene where Yoda shows up, that was cool, but when have ever seen force ghosts affect the physical world? When? That creates a big plot hole. If it’s that easy, why didn’t Yoda do anything in episode 6? Why didn’t Qui Gon do anything in episode 2 or 3? Also when Holdo did that sacrifice move (feminist agenda), destroying snoke’s ship, that was fucking retarded. Why hasn’t anyone done that in the past? If they hyperspaced a ship through the Death Star , they could have beaten the empire very easily. There doesn’t need to be someone on board, just put a bunch of ships in autopilot, and hyperspace that shit into the Death Star. .. Overall, this movie is dogshit. There are some really small good parts but, the rest is bad. The Force awakens copies episode 4, and this one copies parts of episodes 3,5 and 6. As always I enjoyed your reaction, keep up the good work!

The Montreal Colombiano

I’m lowkey happy you share the same opinion as most of us fans do, this movie is literally the worst out of all 9, Rose is the most annoying useless character & Luke was so badly treated even Mark Hamill hated everything about filming this... The MAIN reason why fans hate the Sequels is because of the false promises from Kathleen Kennedy (New president of LucasFilm) telling us fans we’d get more news about what the OG characters have been up to, & we got none of that... That Luke you saw doing nothing & drinking raw Milk isn’t that real JEDI who once destroyed the empire you feel me? Sequels fans keep saying the dialogue was trash in the Prequels but in this movie?! YIKES... IMO you probably will enjoy the 9th movie since it’s basically fan service but I recommend you to watch Everything Wrong With all the Star Wars or something, a cool idea I think! Still good reaction as always my man!

The Montreal Colombiano

Bro I honestly understand your opinion so bad😂 but some people did enjoy it, 9 is basically making shit happen with 0 explanation, Kathleen Kennedy is indeed a feminist who pushes all that political stuff into SW, I don’t see fans having ANY problem with Padme, Leia, Ahsoka... This whole Sequel trilogy was literally MADE for money, nothing else... sucks that Disney ruined such a great franchise in my opinion😐

Koala Banana

Nothing wrong with Force pulling yourself, which is what Leia did. Luke did become very wise. Wiser than any living Jedi. (Only Yoda's Force ghost was wiser.) The key is that you never should have revered Luke for being powerful. Being a Jedi is not about power. All the previous films until the very end of ROTJ showed the Jedi as flawed and mistaken. They should not be worshipped and they should not want to be worshipped. Being a Jedi means living like TLJ Luke does, close to nature, keeping the peace in a non-violent way. Similar to how Luke converted Vader. Not by violence, but through his non-violence.

Daniel R

While I really like the battle at the start, I hate the Bombers. They're the worst ships in all of Star Wars. They're big, slow moving, and extremely explosive. When 1 was shot down, the explosion set off a chain reaction taking a few others down with it. We already know they have bombers like Y-Wings which are small but they opted for big, slow moving, targets as their "bombing fleet"? Dumb.

Anonymous

Man, I thought this was the "Fe Sharpens Fe" reaction. Very disappointed
