This for me goes down as one of the worst movies of the year hands down. This movie has 0 charm, it’s all relying on Jake’s acting otherwise none of the characters have any charm to them except maybe the “sherif/father of love interest” character and the father, the book store owner (great actor) The writing is simply so bad you don’t care for anyone in this movie. This Dalton has killed his UFC friend and has no redemption for what he’s done because he ends up murdering people without issues whatsoever. He fights for fun. Even after murdering someone close to him. If his character would have had some redemption by the end at least to not want to fight but needing to and to see that realisation but nothing… the “bad guy” son of the big boss in prison, if at least he had some character development “I’m trying to get the road house for someone else, so that my father will stay safe in prison and not get murdered” something along those lines so he would do something for the sake of doing rather than just “I want the road house just because” Dalton, again, my guy is a sociopath. He fights because it’s “cool” not because of his job, but because it’s cool. So boring and terrible. In the original you’ll see Dalton fight not because he wants to but only when he has to. Connor’s acting is just Mikey Mouse on coke. Over played everything “look how cool and bad I am” horrible. Love interest is just there for nothing. The writing of that character is again written without any care. They force that father and daughter (store owners) to be the heart of the movie at the end and is just clearly one of those “we got a minority group in our movie that we will make the audience care about, we can tick that off our diversity list” is just so insincere and transparent. Everyone who works at the roadhouse including the owner… the most forgettable character ever!!!! Again “we got this group of people that we cast, we can tick that off and turned them female” We could have had such good scenes to see why the road house means so much to Frankie (the owner) and a heart to heart with Dalton and her but nope… just pure ego. If you get the chance watch the 80s one with Swayze. That movie has charm, Dalton is a profesional bouncer doing his job. And you get to understand it. The Roadhouse itself has charm, the bands playing, characters are memorable. Unlike this movie.
