OTW/Headliner Trading

What is OTW/Headliner Trading?

OTW and Headliner Trading is the idea to make a profit on these specific card types and the hype around them! I decided to include Headliners in this guide as it covers the same basics with just one special situation which I’m going to explain in the part on the special cases.

The basic idea here is to buy cards before the peak hype and sell them during the peak hype. There are 3 very common ways to do it! These OTW/Headliner cards get hyped a lot because they are updating with every new performance-based card (like TOTW or MOTM) and through club wins, that’s why they are so strong fluctuating, and can provide some great profit!

Buying before the game

The easiest idea is to make a profit out of all. It’s already known that people like to gamble on the OTW cards and hope for a solid performance and big price jumps. We can use that hype and buy before everyone else and sell them just before the game.

I had the experience that OTW/Headliner cards are getting low around Sunday-Monday together with the WL Sell-off, but I also like to take a look between Wednesday and Friday. It’s a shorter hold time and can still result in profits.

It's key to sell the cards before the game. Sometimes is smarter to sell a card even before the lineup is known or hours before that. If an OTW/Headliner card doesn’t get into the starting lineup, it usually just goes back down. However, if he’s included in the starting lineup, he takes another hype step and can reach a last very high price before the game.

Buying during the game

For this technique, you need a very fast livescore app, ideally a betting website that updates very fast. This is also the toughest but most profitable way to make a profit from OTW/Headliner cards!

As explained, OTW/Headliners get updated with performance-based cards, that’s why they have a big jump after scoring a goal or assisting a goal. On a few cards, it can take 2 goals or 2 assists to make them rise, but in most cases, 1 contribution is enough to make a change.

The idea here is to buy straight after the goal, ideally, in under 30 sec – 1 min time. Later than that is usually not profitable anymore as there are so many traders trying to make a profit and prices are already up.

Selling time is almost straight after buying I would say like 3-5 min later to get the most of the hype again. We don’t aim to hold longer than that because sometimes a different player can score more goals and then the hype dies out. We want to avoid these risks while hitting the peak hype moment.

Buying after the game

There’s a short time frame after the game with low demand. That’s because people who want to gamble on the OTW/Headliner card already bought it and the people who decided to stay away as the prices are too high don’t look at the card anymore. Meanwhile, some people also don’t have the nerves to hold any longer so they start selling.

In exactly that short time frame we see a low point. That’s a temporary low point as it's higher than before the game but not as high as during the peak.

Depending on how good the game was and the price point of the temporary low point, it can be a smart move to buy! Aimed sell time would be during some TOTW Prediction or hold until the TOTW.

Special Cases

Leaked TOTWs

Same as the TOTW Hype Trading. If you are early and know the TOTW before other people then you got decent chances to make a profit, but if you are late, it's not worth it in most cases.

Buying during TOTW Announcement

It's not that uncommon to get some surprising OTW/Headliner cards in the TOTW. In these situations, it applies the same concept as the TOTW Hype. If you are super early and can get the cards at the average prices, it’s a very solid look! You can aim to sell these cards over the next 10-30 min again as that’s usually the peak.

That’s the best tip I can give on the TOTW Announcement part, there are many different situations, and also depends on the specific card to know the prices/market movements.

Long Term Profit

FIFA 22 introduced a new way for OTW cards to get upgrades. If they get a specific number of wins in the first few games then they get another additional upgrade. This is very similar to Headliner cards as they usually need a set number of won games in a row. In both cases, it makes sense to hold low-risk cards for long-term profit especially if these are close to the discard value.

Summary

- OTWs/Headliners upgrade with performance-based cards

- Use hype for profits

- Sell during the peak hype times and avoid additional risks

- Long-term profits around the Discard value
