Yay! There are many things I like about OFMD but one of them is it is, like The Great, an occasionally true story.

Absolutely loved yer reaction and I am so excited to watch the next one! I recommend ye don't look up any of the actors except for what they're in.

HIGHLY recommend checking out kaz rowe's video on the real stede bonnet after y'all finish the series. i liked this show on first viewing. i'm not trash for it the same way i am for some other media, but it's cute. one of the things that i kinda wish were emphasized more is that stede made a shittier slave owner than he did a pirate captain. i think the show runners toned it down to create a dichotomy between him and the british navy men, but the real stede did do a 180 and paid his crew regular wages after having inherited and owned human beings all his life. i would honestly think that would be as much, if not more, of a motivating factor to escape one's current paradigm as being alienated by one's wife and children. obviously it's more relatable to be in a loveless partnership than it is to be a human trafficker, but i also think it completes the picture of loneliness when we think about the legal status of a wife and children in relation to a man at this time. there were men living out their entire lives with nearly every single expression of human intimacy being provided to them as a service by bodies they legally own, generally starting in infancy with an enslaved wet nurse. if i was one of the ones who became cognizant of that fact, i would wanna break the paradigm with some piracy too. but maybe it would have been too revisionist to ascribe him those sorts of intentions when we don't have a lot of other evidence that he saw anything wrong with slavery.
