Jacob is so much worse in the book. Like holy-shit-levels bad. I don't understand why people love him. I will never forgive Stephenie Meyer for what she did to Charlie in this book. *Mild book spoilers* She had Charlie CONGRATULATE Jacob on sexually assaulting Bella, even after seeing that Bella hurt herself from punching Jacob in response to his unwanted kiss. Charlie was actually a good parent until that moment. I grew up in the same environment as Stephenie Meyer, and I knew fathers that would have had that same reaction as Charlie, so her writing choice didn't surprise me. Edward becomes a LOT less controlling, and all around emotionally healthier (don't get me wrong, he and Bella still have a toxic relationship) in Eclipse. It is truly baffling to me why people ship Jacob and Bella at this point... especially in the books. Not all vampires have powers, but Victoria does have the power of evasion. She can anticipate where to run on borders that will enable her to escape easier (jumping between Cullen and Quileute land), she knows when a cause is lost/or she's in danger so she should flee an area, etc. It's why she was incredibly useful to James. He would routinely make enemies with his "tracking games". She'd warn him when danger was coming and help them run to safety. According to extended lore, Stephenie Meyer said James didn't love Victoria, he only saw her as a convenient tool. I hate how the movie turns Edward into this pathetic wimp of a fighter. It makes zero sense with his powers. In the books, he's a badass, who will always win, because he can anticipate everyone's every move with his mind reading. Having him be a terrible fighter who gets taken by surprise several times makes zero sense.

Yeah, I physically can't bring myself to watch Eclipse again because of Jacob. He manipulated her so many times and then SA her and everyone's like "la dee dah, oh congrats Jake!" Huh?? Forgot if this happens in the film or just the books now but I remembered physically cringing into my seat when he kissed her. I don't know about back then, but now with all the 3 Taylors thing in the Swiftie fandom, everyone's like "ooh yeah we're Team Jacob! Always knew he's a good guy!" Um, no. Jacob was a dipshit. You're Team Taylor Lautner. But okay...

I was SO angry with Charlie when I read that. Disappointed and angry. I wanted Rosalie to chop Jacob up into werewolf kibble.

I couldn't agree more. The kiss was HORRENDOUS to read, and awful to watch. Zero chemistry. I recall my theatre bursting out laughing at it. Remember in the book how Jacob fully threatened to kill himself if Bella didn't kiss him? Just... wtaf. Movie really downplayed that. The book is more tolerable to me because it's when Edward finally stops being less of an asshole and you get to see it. People just thought Taylor Lautner was hot (incredibly weird, considering he was underage when Twilight and New Moon were filmed) and liked him as a person, so they let that form their opinion of the character. People still do that, and I hate it.
