The second trail forces you to face the unthinkable present, but because Subaru had so many different lives, he has to take the trail again and again for each of his loops making the second trial a lot more difficult for Subaru than it would have been for someone else. Poor guy

Also notice how Subaru says he is already dead instaed I'm already dead (05:40), this proves that Subaru is very disconnected from his previous lives. He discarted them and moved on without considering how his death could have affected those around him.
