The pacing of this season is really taking me by surprise! But I'm not complaining since I like wrapped up story lines rather than cliffhangers XD

Actually, this part was extremely rushed, compared to the manga. This cookoff is way better paced in the original and it felt too rushed in the anime. It lacked tension. In the manga it is treated like a huge thing, absolutely unfavourable and one-sided, with a lot of twists. The rest of the season is properly paced, fortunately. P.S. In the manga, there is a short extra episode in between the preliminaries and the first cookoff of the finals, that is only briefly mentioned in this episode of the anime, in which Soma and Megumi get invited by Isshiki to a special place, and he dresses all serious before, instead of being half naked as usual. They are taken by surprise when they see it's actually an elementary school. Isshiki teaches there part-time to children (that's where his famous apron is from), and it clearly has a special place in his heart. He took them there to both help them relax and give them inspiration for the finals, without directly helping them, because he has to stay neutral. They end up making one of the children, an adorable but initially distrusting girl, that hates cooking in classes, actually love it, and it also gives Soma the inspiration for his dish in the cookoff. It's a shame they didn't make an OVA out of the thing. It's just a small filler, but it's very cute, serves a purpose in the story and also gives a cool look into Isshiki's personal life out of the school.
