Greetings Patrons,

I've just returned from a 6-day vacation in Costa Rica with my family. I would have loved to stay a bit longer but my kids are in public school here in New York City and they only get a week for spring break. We haven't gone abroad in a long (long!) time and it was wonderful to get out into nature. The birds alone are worth the trip.

The image above is the view from our little rental cottage near Playa Dominicalito, on the Pacific. As you can see, it's a dense jungle but right next to the ocean. If we had never left the porch of this house we would have seen more bird species than I've ever seen before, not to mention the monkeys, iguanas, and insects.

I brought along a small field recorder and quickly realized that the small road near the ocean had too much traffic noise to get clean recordings during the day. So, I set the alarm for 1:45 am to capture some night sounds, and woke again at 4:30 am for the dawn chorus.

I've attached 3 minimally edited (slight eq, seamless looping) tracks. One night track, full of insects, surf, and wind. There are also 2 dawn tracks. The first is a combination of insects and birds, the second, about 30 minutes later is the full dawn chorus, with a few distant dogs.

These will probably make their way into projects at some point, but I thought it would be fun to share the raw recordings (high-quality .ogg files in this case). Use them however you wish!

Anyway, I'm happy to be back and inspired to create new things. Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim
