Greetings Patrons,

I've been meaning to do a Shadowfell ambience ever since The Feywild came out.  Apparently I got sidetracked. Thankfully, a few of you reminded me of this oversight recently.

I had to dig into the lore a bit to make sure I was starting off on the right track. This interview with Mike Mearls helped put it in perspective:

It is definitely an abstract, emotional type of ambience. I wanted it to be dark and chaotic but also rooted in a kind of physicality. By this I mean, you're not floating about in it. Many of the illustrations feature a barren rocky landscape with brooding clouds and even structures. I added a constant crumbling rock underscore as well as atmospheric discharges to accentuate this.  The below image from the 5e Dungeon Master's Guide illustrates this pretty well.

For those that prefer something a little more abstract I've included a version without the rocks/atmospheric discharge.

This track will of course work well with any dark themed game or story. It could be a dream sequence, a trip to the underworld or a Cthulhu-esque interlude.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Just listened to it. Great work! Need to write an adventure to use this for now.

Well done. I like how you played with the staging of the sounds to create an unsettling "presence". This will go well with a session of Dread.

Thanks for all your work! I've been too embarrassed, I don't know if this is covered somewhere, but eventually I have to suck it up and just ask... these Patron-only tracks, basically they're just intended to be downloaded and played in an offline player? Related question: can we do the same for the tracks on the site? Running the audio in a local player presumably helps your bandwidth costs, too?

Brian - Correct. The tracks on the site can all be downloaded as well, just make sure you're on a desktop/laptop machine or you won't see the 'save' link on each track. - Tim
