Greetings Patrons,

I've completed the 24th SoundPad and the first of 2020, Desert Planet. This is a sneak peak for Patreon patrons and will be released to the public later this week. Please feel free to just share with gaming groups and family until then.

As with many of these biome SoundPads, I add the word 'planet' after them to give me freedom from being slavishly realistic. Hence the dinosaurs in the jungle, giants in the ice etc.

I watched a lot of desert themed films while researching this. Lawrence of Arabia, Dune, Pitch Black and others. I found that the human element really helped to add to the story telling aspect of this world. There was only so much wind and shifting sand sounds that I could make and the temple was much needed interior element. As such, Desert Planet is quite heavily populated with humanoid tribes.

There are 3 tones which are useful for adding atmosphere to any desert based sounds. There are also 3 musical tracks which, while not authentic in any way, are consistent with the vibe for my particular world. I had a great time making my electric violin sound like a duduk, or ney for the Destiny track.

Next week I will add these sounds to the Custom SoundPad which will bring the total number of mixable sounds to over 800.

I've attached the 3 musical tracks from Desert Planet as higher resolution mp3 files for patrons.

Thank you, as always for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

I love the Duduk. It really creates a mood. Had a hard time hearing the rumble but I may need to listen on a system with a subwoofer and more bass response. Well done. I feel ready for Dune 2020 now.

Yes, good point, the rumble is quite bass heavy so probably won't work well on a phone or tablet type speaker.

I just want to say that I love this release! It's such a good theme and brilliant music. I just wish the music tracks were longer!

Cederien

Pretty amazing. The only thing I miss a bit is a music track that's more 'Ancient Egypt' then Arab in style.

This became instantly one of my favourites :D and my campaign is likely to head to southern continent in near future, so timing's excellent too! Lots of thanks again for your great work! Btw there's already quite a huge amount of sounds available in custom soundpad – would it be possible to add filtering by type there (in left sidebar)? Tones, Musics, Monsters etc. Another thought – would it be possible to have a "small fight combo ambient" at some point? Now all my fantasy custom pads have always several slots reserved for Feet scuffle, Grunts and few other sounds, sometimes just in case or one small fight.

Another shot out of the park Tim. Just turn on drums, wait four cycles then hit duduk. Ten tons of atmosphere and tension from just two buttons.

Austin Ballard

Deserts are among my favorite fantasy settings, from Prince of Persia to Gerudo Valley!
