Greetings Patrons,

I sometimes forget the silly things that go on here in pursuit of audio, so I figured I'd take a procrasti-break and make this quick video to show you how eyeglass cleaner cloths and surgical clamps can make some cool bat wing sounds.

Back to work now!

quick and dirty bat wings!

working on a Halloween piece and I needed a bunch of bat wings. Here's a quick way you could do it.

I love this stuff. =)

So do you use different materials for different wings? Or different methods as well?

Yes, mostly different sizes though. Dragon wings would be more like a blanket or a towel that would then get pitched down and eq'd. umbrellas can be good as long the mechanism isn't too loud. The glasses cloths just happened to be sitting next to me.

Interesting to see the method behind the magic. I know its more on the technical side but I would love to see a vid of how you layer up things especially how you distort sounds to produce different effects.

Hey man, I recently for the first time used your sound effects during an dnd session, and I must say the result was perfect! The mood was basically set by what I chose to play, so the abandoned island was perfectly set by your calm ocean side sounds, and when they ventured into a cave, I changed it to more eerie sounds, which completely changed how they approached everything. That was what I hoped for, and why I started being a Patreon. So effects like these will just continue to make the experience even better! love it!

I airdrum my bats… Now that's a sentence I suddenly feel obliged to place in a gaming session.

Have you ever considered providing soundpad effects as individual files for download? As great as the soundpad interface is, I just can't seem to work with it when I'm running my D&D games, but Mac software called Farrago works really well for me. I totally understand if you want to keep them more tightly under your direct control, but thought I'd ask in case you were open to the idea.

I’ll certainly consider it. Isn’t Farrago a grid also? Also, from what I’ve read it won’t do scenes like SoundPads can. (Multiple sounds with one click). One possible suggestion might be to create a limited set with Custom SoundPad so you’re not overwhelmed with choices while you’re DMing. You can create many of these that are easily switchable via the right hand menu.
