Greetings Patrons,

I've always loved the film Jason & The Argonauts (1963). My favorite scene was when Hercules and his companion encountered the giant statue of the titan, Talos. When the statue turned his head for the first time, well, let's say it was a pretty powerful moment for 10-year-old me.

If you need a refresher: https://youtu.be/SNg4KZKG96o?si=DNzlVVjsBJXncDLj&t=175

As if Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation wasn't enough, Bernard Herrmann's score sealed the deal, especially his use of ultra-low woodwinds like the contrabass clarinet.

I took this basic concept, created two stone/metal automata, and placed them in a crypt as guardians, standing still for eternity until disturbed.

Musically this is more of a Herrmann vis a vis John Williams mashup. I used heaps of atonality with very little melodic relief. I borrowed (stole) some orchestration from Herrmann and used lots of low woodwinds and low brass.

This is a very high-tension track that could be used as action, suspense, or even horror.

The ambience is modulated wind, creaking metal, scraping stone and vocalizations from throats made of metal and stone.

As this track is in Patreon sneak-peek mode, I've included the mixed version (live on the site next week), as well as ambience-only and music-only versions. Additionally, I created two 'No Guardians" versions for more of a standard crypt-like feel. I hope you find these useful.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

What a super job! I love all the musical elements you chose and how you used them in this "mashup". I already know the BBEG scene where I'm going to use the music only track. The ambience only tracks are perfect for all sorts of guardian and elemental encounters. I'll be using these tracks quite a bit in my sessions. Cheers Tim :)

I love this piece! And I too got goose bumps from Jason and the Argonauts. I loved all the stop motion movies back in the day. Like Sinbad! And your music brings my players right into that feeling. I’ll be using this track for sure!
