Chapter 21 – A Female Adventurer’s Struggle and Reward 2

――I didn’t see anyone from the Rosenkreuzer for a week after that.

The reason is that the Rosenkreuzers did not visit me, nor did they come to the Adventurers’ Guild.

“They couldn’t have gone back to the capital without me knowing, could they?”

I muttered to myself as I checked the request forms for the quests that had been brought in.

The guildmaster, who happened to be passing by, stopped in his tracks, apparently having overheard my muttering.

“Hm? What is it, Ryou, is something wrong?”

“Ah, no. I was just thinking that I haven’t seen any members of the Rosenkreuzer lately.”

“Well, for better or worse, they’re a prominent bunch. How are the exploration plans going?”

When adventurers explore a dungeon, they need an ‘exploration plan’ issued by the Adventurers’ Guild.

Although it’s called a plan, it’s nothing more than a rough itinerary, like “I will enter the dungeon on day XX and return on day XX.”

Of course, it is not as if every adventurer is being monitored, nor do they have to report every place they enter or leave. So only when a request is made for an adventurer whose whereabouts are unknown will the guild go out and look at the exploration plan to confirm the adventurer’s last steps.

Usually, suppose the adventurer has not returned after the scheduled time specified in the exploration plan. In that case, there is a high probability that the adventurer has died in the dungeon.

Huh? Why don’t I just look at the documents, you say? Well, exploration plans are the responsibility of the Dungeon Exploration Department, not the Quest Distribution Department to which I belong, so I didn’t have the documents to hand.

But it’s not like I can’t ask for them, so I decided to ask the person in charge of the Dungeon Exploration Department to find the documents and look at them.

……

It didn’t take long to find the plan.

However, both the guild master and I raised our eyebrows when we saw the estimated return date.

“What’s with this estimated return date? Ten full days after the start of exploration?! Is it a typo?”

“No. I was told the same thing, so the numbers are correct. They said they were going to stay in the dungeon while they explored.”

“Stay? Like overnight?”

The guildmaster’s eyes widen in surprise.

And, off to the side, a woman from the Dungeon Exploration Section looks at him with a fascinated expression.

“Spending the night in a dungeon is nothing new, is it?”

“I know that. But isn’t it rather dangerous to sleep in the Dungeon of the Hungry Wolf? There’s indeed a high-ranking mage named Tsukikage in there, but many unexpected things can happen…”

The Dungeon of the Hungry Wolf is a dungeon with 20 floors at its deepest, and as the name suggests, it is a dungeon where many wolf monsters can be found.

Wolf monsters have a nose for everything. If adventurers happen to spend the night in the dungeon, they will sniff them out and slowly form a pack around them.

Due to the presence of such pesky monsters, exploration of the deeper levels of this hungry wolf dungeon has not progressed very far.

Suppose you want to get deeper into the dungeon. In that case, you will need to purchase magic items such as the Transfer Magic Circle or have a mage in your party who can use Transfer Magic, where you will spend a day exploring before returning to town to rest. Then, repeat this process over and over again.

“…”

Without realizing it, my hands were sweating.

I wiped my sweaty palms on my trousers and took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.

It’s okay, yeah.

Everything’s going to be okay.

Everyone in Rosenkreutzer is an adventurer who specializes in exploring dungeons.

I don’t know what their intentions are, but as S-rank adventurers, they wouldn’t do anything reckless.

…but I still couldn’t help but doubt it!

After all, that Carla was quite excited when I met her at the inn earlier!

However, I thought that even if Carla ran off recklessly, the other members would surely stop her.

They would stop her, right?

“――G-Guildmaster!”

While I was breaking out in a cold sweat and wondering if I should have told Carla more clearly, a guild employee came running in a panic to ask for the guild master.

On closer inspection, she was a receptionist from the Dungeon Exploration Department.

The guild master and I stared blankly at the face of the employee who had come in.

“What is it? What’s going on?”

“Ah, that… the S-rank adventurers, the Rosenkreuzers, have returned!”

Oh, so they’re back! That’s good news.”

“And it looks like they have managed to climb over the 20th floor! They are now bringing in the materials from the 20th-floor boss!”

“W-what did you say?”
