Chapter 5 – Uncovering the Secrets of the Female Property Owner 1

Schild went to visit Argolina the next day.

“Oh? Is there anything I can help you with?”

Argolina’s reaction was not with a hint of surprise.

Schild had already refused her request. She had no reason to welcome him back to her office.

“Nothing. I’m just glad that you are here.”

This time, however, Argolina is unexpectedly open and welcoming to Schild.

“You may sit here while I get you a drink. Would you like a glass of wine? Or a beer, perhaps?”

“From the looks of you, I’d say you already know.”

The wealthy woman licked her tongue like a snake at Schild’s sharp point.

“I heard you hunted down the monster in question. You’re not an honest person, even though you refused the request beforehand.”

“I knew you had a watchdog on you. Both the monster and the subjugator herself.”

In missions like this, it is essential to have an overseer to see if the subjugation is really successful or not. Even more so if the target is a sea-dwelling monster far from the ground.

“Bram was completely unaware that he was being monitored.”

“Well, while assigning a watchdog is a sign of distrust in the subjugator, it is also amusing to me how much they took it in stride. I mean, just look at her smile, the idiot.”

But in this way, she was able to manipulate the motivation of her employers at will.

It made Schild slightly uncomfortable, however.

“But in the end, she was useless. She failed, and you killed the monster. I’ll make sure you’re well compensated. After all, I like to take care of talented people.”

“There’s something else, isn’t there?”

At these words, Argolina, a very wealthy woman, now with a bottle of liquor, sits down on the sofa instead of responding.

She sits down next to Schild.

Nevertheless, Schild continues.

“There’s something else you haven’t told her, isn’t there? No, it’s not just Bram. There’s something else you haven’t told all the guests on that beach.”

“What are you talking about?”

She was a sweet talker, but she seemed to have a guilty conscience as she tried to get up from her seat and keep her distance.

But she couldn’t.

She was unable to do so, because when she sat down next to him, Schild wrapped his hands around her waist and gripped her tightly.

“……”

In contemplation, she poured the drink into the glass.

Schild downed it in one gulp.

“…Bram is a Monster Subjugator who specializes in the underwater.”

Then he began to speak in halting tones.

He brought his face so close to Argolina’s that their lips were almost touching.

“She is much more useful than other Subjugators in the sea. She moves well and has the experience, meaning she was supposed to be good at what she does.”

“I guess that means she was incompetent. I’ve seen a lot of experts who are not what they claim to be.”

“That’s true. But this time, her blunder was no fault of her own. She did not know that the target this time was Bassborer.”

The artillery fish Bassborer is recognized as an extremely dangerous monster due to its powerful water jets and is highly profiled by the guilds.

A high bounty would immediately be placed on its head just for being discovered.

“Bram was bombarded with a large water jet from a considerable distance. She was sniped at large, only seeing the column of water which is the signature move of the Bassborer, so she never got to see the Bassborer at all.”

“So what? Let’s just drink and celebrate the disappearance of this annoying monster.”

“You didn’t tell Bram that the target this time was a Bassborer. That’s why she fell prey to the water jet so easily.”

Schild had already confirmed this point with Bram.

The target she was told by Argolina was not a Bassborer.

On the contrary, it was a common monster far less dangerous than a Bassborer.

“You mixed some lies into your request.”

Moreover, it was a fatal lie, pretending that the monster to be subjugated was something else.

There was no other reason for Bram, a Subjugator specializing in the sea, to be unaware of the sea monsters.

The Bassborer boasts unparalleled undersea combat skills, thanks to its unique ability to shoot a large water jet.

In particular, the range of its long-range hydraulic bombardment is unmatched.

Thus, a special procedure is usually required to kill such a monstrous fish.

There is no way that Bram, an expert on sea-dwelling monsters, would be unaware of this strategy.

If she had known from the start that she was dealing with a Bassborer, she would not have approached it in such a way as to make herself a target for its long-range bombardment.

“That was the reason for her blunder. When there is uncertain information in a request, it may directly lead to the Subjugator’s death. The client should only give accurate and definite information. That is a strict rule set by the guild.”

Moreover, Argolina intentionally mixed false information into the contents of the request, not only to make it uncertain but to make it false.

It was an act of malfeasance that went beyond carelessness.

“The reason Bram was able to dodge the first shot with just a hair’s breadth from being knocked unconscious was because of her sharp movements from being trained in the water. Anybody else would have died for sure.”

The superhydrostatic pressure would have obliterated her in pieces, and her corpse would have become fish food instead of returning to the surface.

“Why would you do that?”

“I don’t know… what you’re talking about.”

Argolina looked up from her glass as if trying to escape Schild’s scrutiny.

She poured a new glass of wine into the empty one.

“I don’t understand what you are saying. Don’t offend me with your delusions. For a moment, I almost thought highly of you…”

“Shall I say more?”

Schild has not yet released the hands around the waist that restrained Argolina.

On the contrary, his hands were still caressing and playing around her buttocks and thighs.

“I told you before, didn’t I? Bram isn’t the only one you’ve lied to and deceived.”
