Chapter 2 – Prime Minister Dernonos

Prime Minister.

A prime minister is a person directly elected by the king to assist the monarchy or act entirely on his behalf.

It is the most important position among the ministers and is basically regarded as the highest and most important position among the other government positions of the country, excluding the royalty.

It is the royalty’s “chief vassal,” to sum it up.

“Why do you think the Prime Minister is suspicious?”

“I found out through joint investigation with the Oscars’ patriarch that he was the one who told them that the king doesn’t need any visitors. Of course, that goes for us as well, but just with different reasons.”

“And? Have you managed to contact him with this?”

“Yes. I even pressed him about lifting the ban of my visit to my father. But again, just like the last time, he still refused, this time insisting that it was father’s own will.”

“Even with all that? Then it only leaves us back to square one! Now I know why you’re so frustrated.”

“In any case, this move made by the prime minister made him the most suspicious of all.”

In the case of Dernonos, he was a petty bureaucrat belonging to the Oscar faction, and you could say that the reason he was able to reach the summit position of Prime Minister was because of him becoming the loyal dog of the Oscar family.

Because of this loyalty, he didn’t draw much attention to both camps, making him stay out of the political fray until today.

In a sense, it was only natural, as, in the end, the minister is still a vassal to the king.

He was a messenger and not someone to blame as he was also obeying and receiving orders.

“If you already tried, how about the Oscars? Since he belonged to that faction, they must have an effect on him, no?”

“Of course, they also tried this. It didn’t work.”

Even though it was the Oscar family’s intention to increase their influence in the royal court that they had made him rise to the position of Prime Minister, only Dernonos, who had acquired this position, could only use its power and not them.

“As such, there was no direct way for the Oscar family to do anything against the prime minister anymore after their request was rejected.”

“As only the king has the right to appoint and dismiss the prime minister, huh.”

The king is currently confined to a sick room at the back of the palace, and no one is allowed to see him.

But that doesn’t include his direct vassals, meaning the prime minister could see him personally without anything blocking his way.

“It’s like having the only key to a safe.”

“Either way, the only thing we can do now is to order the bureaucrats of each faction to boycott their jobs or to publicly criticize the prime minister at various points. And these are all already arduous and risky measures.”

Not to mention the backlash of being fired as a bureaucrat, it would take quite some time before the Prime Minister would snap, and there is no guarantee that he would give way even after that.

They couldn’t resort to political means either, as it would give the Prime Minister’s side plenty of ways to fight back.

“………”

“………”

“I’ll do it.”

“……What do you mean?”

“I’ll make my move personally and put the matters into my own hands.”

“I’m sorry, but how would you-“

“I can storm directly into the palace and breach all the way to the king’s sleeping quarters. I’m still an unrelated party, so it won’t be a problem. If it comes to the worst and they start blaming you, then cut me off and say that I did it on my own.”

To meet his father, Schild has been trying to do all sorts of things in a smart way with Cymbium, but even with all he has done, there was still no progress. He already reached the limit where he even thought storming in would provide him less trouble.

This was not surprising, as it was Schild’s style to do everything by his own hands. Whether it was killing a monster or holding a woman in his arms.

However, to Cymbium,

“Noooooo! I won’t allow it, Schild! Just no way! Never! If you do that, we won’t be able to save you, even with my and Serenea’s forces and powers combined!”

“What? Do you think those leftover knights and the soldiers of that failure of a royal court can stop me?”

“While I’m sure you’re not wrong about that, if you storm in the royal palace, you’ll be a wanted man for life! If that happens, then all of our plans will be ruined!”

“But I’m doing this because all your plans didn’t work in the first place!”

“Guhh! Anyway!”

Cymbium forcibly changed the subject.

“I will not allow you to meet father at the expense of your freedom and safe living the kingdom. If that happens, I-I will take my own life!”

“Wait, isn’t that too much?”

“I’ll have you know, Mr. Schild, that you have already made me into a woman who can’t live without you. And don’t you dare challenge me on this.”

There is no greater weakness for a man than to have his own woman hurt.

It’s a mystery whether Cymbium herself was aware of it or not, but her statement to kill herself hit Schild’s vital point beautifully, making him stop any further ideas on him.

“All right, all right. I won’t do anything rash, so please don’t do anything rash either, sis.”

“Fufufu, now you’re playing the little brother card? Well, as long as you don’t do it first, then I’ll be glad to comply. Ah, you’ve made me horny again♡♡”

After this, the two “siblings” kissed each other passionately for a while.

Normally, this would have led to a quick transition to sex, but as there were other important things to discuss, the brakes of reason were soon applied to stop them.

“But if there’s no effective way out, then there’s nothing we can do but to break in, don’t we?”

“About that, I’ve already thought of a solution.”

A political solution to “extract” the king in peace.

“It wasn’t possible before, but with the help of House Oscar, I think we can do it now.”

“And how would you guarantee that it will work?”

“Oh, it will work. As it will also adapt your strategy of breaking in. “

“Come again!?”

“But let me make this clear first. You going on the rampage in the castle won’t be enough. Even if you really meet him, what will come after that? This is something you need to carefully prepare for, and this is where we come to play.”

“Right now, we are on the advantage as they still don’t know what’s coming to them. We’ll use this charge to seize the initiative and plug up as many holes as we can. After all, once we do this, there is no more turning back.”

“What are you going to do?”

Schild spoke in reflex to Cymbium, a bit intimidated by the fact that the usual calm and calculative princess is now sounding more ostentatious than he was.

“We will invoke the Magna Carta.”
