Chapter 5 – New Revelations

After getting out of the bath, Yoichi took off the robe he is wearing and put it on Alana. After that, he put on his usual tracksuit.

The wet hair and the glowing cleavage peeking out from the chest of the gown made him want to bang her again, but he also knew he shouldn’t do her too many times or her body wouldn’t keep up, so instead, he prepared a hairdryer and started to dry the princess knight’s hair.

The two are now sitting on the sofa in the living room.

After drying her hair, Yoichi went to the kitchen and made a cup of coffee.

The coffee, of course, was instant coffee.

(I see, they have coffee. And they also use sugar in it instead of honey.)

Yoichi looked at the princess knight’s armor once again.

The princess knight’s armor was reminiscent of a medieval European knight, so he thought their level of civilization was about the same as that of medieval Europe. But because he was reminded of the presence of magic in that world, he opted not to make that simple comparison anymore.

Also, being she was not particularly surprised after seeing a hairdryer for the first time, even calling it a “magic tool to warm air”, this suggested to him that there existed similar things in the other world.

As the princess knight hadn’t eaten properly for a long time, Yoichi opted to use decaffeinated instant coffee with milk and, as she requested, with a lot of sugar.

By the way, by the time she got out of the bath, Alana’s arms and legs were already able to stand up on their own. She was even able to turn her body to some extent while Yoichi was drying her hair.

Alanna held up her index finger and stared at the tip of it. Originally, as the name “Light” implies, this should generate light on the tip of her finger, but because of the absence of magic in this world, she failed to activate it.

“So, what you’re saying is, there’s a magic-sealing artifact of some sort on this place?”

“What the hell is a magic sealing artifact…… Also no. The reason why Alana can’t use magic is simple. There is no magic in this world. As well as the mana that fuels it.”

“Impossible……No, wait. You were using a magic tool for warming air just now! How can you explain the power source of that thing!?”

“Well, it is not magic. That, I’m sure. It’s not a magic tool in the first place. “Appliances” are what we call it.”

“App-lie-ounces?”

(Even with the [Language Comprehension+], it didn’t get through. This explains that there’s no such thing as consumer electronics over there.)

After that, Yoichi used every word he could use to explain the differences between the other world and this world and told her who he was, including his past history.

Though the time they spent together is short, Yoichi knew one thing – that she’s a person that could be trusted.

As for sharing his identity, Yoichi considered this as an investment. He believed that it is essential to have a help of a trustworthy person when adventuring in the future, and with the timing of Alana, he couldn’t help but think that it was fate that he met her just as he was starting to explore this other world.

If it turns out that she’s not really a trustworthy person, he’ll just think of it as a mistake on his judgment and carry on. But at the very least, Yoichi had no intention of judging the woman, at least not for now.

Of course, he could also use [Appraisal+] to find out more about who she is, and after telling her everything, he could quickly appraise her again to determine what she thinks of him after that and whether she will be able to help him in the future or so. However, Yoichi didn’t opt to do it.

The reason is simple.

He doesn’t want to depend much on skills to judge people.

After listening to Yoichi, Alana looked down for a while and grumbled. Finally, after a few minutes of pondering, she came to a conclusion.

“I don’t get it.”

Then she looked up.

“Yep, I knew you would say that.”

Yoichi, too, didn’t think it would be that easy for her to understand.

“It’s not that I don’t believe in……Mr. Yoichi’s story, but I just can’t……get my head around it.”

“Then, do you feel any kind of odd sensation? Like a feeling of discomfort?”

“I certainly do have a feeling of discomfort, but I don’t think that it would be evidence as I’m not even in perfect physical condition at the moment.”

“I see.”

“I guess it’s my turn now to ask you something. Mr. Yoichi, do you have “that”?”

“That what?”

“You aren’t feeling any difference between this room and that forest?”

“Well……not really?”

Although the difference between the forest and the indoor environment was apparent, Yoichi couldn’t give a clear answer to what Alana was referring to.

(Was she talking about the difference between the forest of this world and the forest of that world? But how come? She hasn’t even been into the forests of Earth yet!)

“Well, you can think of me as an outlander for now.”

“Uh-huh?”

That’s when both had heard the sound of the princess knight’s stomach growling.

Apparently, the coffee milk with a lot of sugar was not enough to satisfy the princess knight’s stomach.

“Ah……this is, uhm…….”

“No, I don’t mind. I should have expected this as you haven’t eaten a good meal since then. Let me cook some food for you.”

Yoichi wasn’t surprised about this as the other party has been taking only sports drinks and Jelly for over a whole day. But then again, he also knew she’s still in a state where it’s still bad if she were to eat something heavy.

“Drink this for the time being.”

So he took out another Jell-o Drink once again from his [infinite Storage+], a temporary fix for her grumbling appetite.

“Come to think of it, Mr. Yoichi. You are still able to use skills even though you claim this “world” has no mana. Why is that?”

“As for that, I had gotten some of its “supply” from the  “Administrator”. That’s why I was still able to use it, even in this world.”

“Again, with your ambiguous phrases……but Administrator, huh……could this administrator be a God or something similar?”

“Hmm, maybe, but I’m not sure. In any case, you should think that later and drink first while I prepare something easy to eat.”

With this, Yoichi went to the kitchen and decided to make porridge.

By the way, before starting his adventure, Yoichi had also bought a small earthenware pot “Just in case I feel the urge to make a hotpot all of a sudden” and also prepared some cold rice in a separate Tupperware “Just in case I might want to have some cold rice”.

He brought these two out of his [Infinite Storage+] with an egg and some seasonings.

He decided to put the cold rice in the pot first. After that, he added water and powdered broth to the pot and let it simmer.

When the rice was cooked to a certain degree, he seasoned it with salt, poured in the beaten eggs, turned off the heat, and covered it with a lid.

Spreading out a potholder on the table where the armor was previously placed, Yoichi placed his final product on top.

Then he opened the lid of the earthenware pot again to ensure the eggs were preheated to a suitable temperature.

With a light drizzle of ponzu vinegar, Yoichi completed his dish.

(I guess I have to buy some seaweed after this.)

Yoichi also wanted to sprinkle his porridge with some nori seaweed. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t find any.

“Ooh, that smells good. What’s that?”

“It’s rice gruel.”

As he said this, he scooped up the porridge with a ladle, put it on a plate, and handed it to Alana together with a spoon.

Alana’s paralysis has dramatically lessened, and she is now in a state where she can handle a spoon on her own.

“Be careful. It’s hot.”

“Mm. Thanks……ahh!!”

“……and that’s what I’m talking about.”

“Huuu, afuuu……it’s hot, but it’s good!”

“I’m glad you like it.”

“Hmm, is this……rice boiled until it’s soft?”

But just by seeing her reaction alone, Yoichi was sure that it was not the same as Japanese rice, which has been bred and improved over the years.

After this, Alana ended up devouring a bowl of porridge made from about two cups of rice.

Before Yoichi knew it, Alana had already picked up the container of the jelly drink she had emptied before eating the porridge and was staring at it.

When Yoichi saw this, it occurred to him that he should show her something that didn’t seem to exist in her world to prove the existence of this “other world”.

“You don’t have anything like this in your world, do you?”

Yoichi then showed her the Tupperware that had contained the cold rice.

She picked it up, looked at it from various angles, and played it with her fingers to check its texture.

“Slime materials, I guess?”

“Slime, what?”

“It has the same texture as slime material. You know, the carcass when you defeat slimes.”

“Oh, you mean the monster kind.”

“Yes. That’s why I concluded that this material can be made by smelting slimes and forming them. Come to think of it, I think I saw something similar? Though not as clean as this one…….”

Yoichi hadn’t seen a slime monster yet, but since it was a staple in every fantasy world, he immediately believed it existed out there, somewhere.

And apparently, there are already materials similar to plastic in the other world. This made Yoichi wonder if there were any materials straight out of the fantasy “here” that should exist “there”.

“Ah, that’s right! There’s no orichalcum nor mithril that exists in this world!”

“That’s……Mr. Yoichi, not knowing the existence of something does not prove that it does not exist in your world.”

“Damn, you’re right. That was certainly stupid of me. But, then again, I never thought I would encounter a devil’s proof here.”

“Devil’s proof?”

“It’s hard to prove something doesn’t exist if it doesn’t exist. Or that’s how I understand it.”

The term “devil’s proof” or “Probatio diabolica” was originally used for proving rights such as patents, discovery rights, so on and so forth, but in recent years it is often used to mean proof of negative facts – proof that something does not exist.

“Then why is it called the Devil’s proof?”

“That’s because something like a “devil” doesn’t exist in this world, but you can’t really prove that it doesn’t exist. Sure, you can say that they exist somewhere, but because no one has ever seen nor met them before, or because of the lack of evidence, no one was able to prove it. “

“I’m not sure if I’m following you here, but I have fought devils personally quite a few times.”

“That’s what I mean. For you, it’s easy to prove that demons exist, isn’t it? Because in your world, it’s just a matter of meeting them in person.”

“But there are no devils in this world.”

However, Alana was still far from being really amazed. Instead, Yoichi found out that there also existed magical tools that could exchange images and sounds between distant locations in the other world. In addition, there are also magic tools that record images and sounds. Applying them together, they were able to make something that resembled a television.

In actuality, over there, “television broadcasting” is not a form of mass entertainment unlike in Yoichi’s world, at least not in the town where Alanna lives. But since the principle of reproducing it is already there, the possibility of broadcasting could no longer be denied by Yoichi anymore.

After this, Yoichi showed Alana various things that he thought couldn’t exist in the other world, but all of them ended up being things that could be reproduced with magic, alchemy, and magical tools.

Yoichi then led Alanna to the balcony and asked her to look out the window.

It was still light outside, and from the upper floors of the apartment building, they could see the modern city of Japan, which had developed to a certain extent.

“This is…… a cityscape I’ve never seen.”

Alana was impressed, but even with this, she still couldn’t quite grasp that this was a different world from the one she lived in.

From the window were the appraisal results of Misato, Karin, and Alana, and for some reason, all the three of them had [Healthy Body+] in their skill column, which should not be possible.

The reason for this revelation was that the flow of magic power that she was supplying to Yoichi felt odd for some reason.

And it’s not just [Healthy Body]. It’s [Healthy Body+], a unique skill that only Yoichi should possess.

Because of the abnormal situation occurring in a double sense, the administrator decided to monitor Yoichi’s actions since then.

And when she found out that he would bring Alana back home, she hurriedly created and granted him the skill of [World Transfer Safety]. The part that she had “prepared this in advance and will be automatically learned” was a lie she came upon the spot, same with the skill.

[1]. What is being talked about here is a play between words. The actual skill name of Yoichi is [世渡上手] while Yowatari Jouzu is [世渡り上手] with one character difference. Yowatari Jouzu also means a combination of “ideal traits” in associating with people in your workplace, and the closest meaning to it in English is “Knowing how to swim with the tide.”

Yowatari Jouzu consists of Characters for World(世), Crossover(渡) and Skill (上手), and if taken literally, it means “one who crosses the [obstacles of the] world well” or “one who’s skilled in crossing [the obstacles of] the world”.

It was taken as an ideal working ethic by the Japanese (Don’t quote me on this. This is just based on what I searched) and are composed of these traits:

Good at spoiling people.

Good at singing praises.

Prioritizes the other person’s feelings.

Always smiling.

Good at taking care of people.

Always getting in touch.

Being appealing even to older people such as seniors and bosses.

Always have abundant topics to discuss and is information savvy
