Chapter 5 – Ending Flash

“Ugh……!”

The black armor Redone was wearing broke in many places, scattering fragments all around.

Some of the surfaces of his armor even melted and billowed white smoke.

“My time’s already up. However……”

Redone continued to press further.

The energy smoldering in the middle of the two was slowly making its way towards Felix.

“What an unfathomable magic power…”

Felix couldn’t help but be astonished.

His magic power, even his life force, he had already converted it in this attack of his, but he was still unable to push through.

“You said something about “protecting your friends,” didn’t you? Thinking of others and wielding power for them, you were able to squeeze out power that exceeds your own limits. However, that only makes your power overly reliant on others.”

The clashing magical energies were again brought an inch closer towards Felix.

“It’s getting heavier……the pressure is increasing!?”

Felix is already groaning.

“But I’m not. I’m always alone. Every battle is only for me. That’s why…”

A smile appeared on Redone’s lips. Unfortunately, this time it was even ghastlier, more arrogant, and more irreverent.

“Alone, I am the strongest.”

All of a sudden, black radiance flooded the air around Redone with an explosive force.

This black radiance then swallowed up the phoenix of light Felix had created, and both energies disappeared without a trace.

Although it was not pushed away, the magical energy that both of them had created is now gone.

They completely vanished, as if there were none right from the start.

“Haaa, haaa, haaa…….”

Letting out a ragged breath, Felix was first to collapse on the spot – only to be more surprised when he saw his reflection on the blade of his sword.

His gray hair – It had already turned entirely white.

He realized once again that he had given everything he had.

That he no longer has the strength left to fight.

On the other hand, Redone,

“You can’t do any more magic sword tricks? It’s game over for you, then.”

A purple aura was still rising from his entire body, and he looked as if he still had some energy left in him.

A quiet resignation spread through Felix’s heart.

“No, it’s different.”

But he quickly denied the feeling of defeat that had come over him.

Felix staggered to his feet.

“I can’t lose yet……to protect my friends……I have to…….”

“I mean it, that was a close battle. You’re strong.”

But Redone paid no attention to it. Instead, he lowered his black sword.

“But it’s time we end this. I still have one more opponent besides you who might make for an interesting fight.”

From its pointed end, Redone’s black sword blade started to emit light.

The same tip warped its shape and transformed into an organic lifeform, resembling a dragon’s head.

A jet-black sphere of light began charging in its gaping mouth.

Goosebumps broke out all over Felix’s body.

He could feel that there’s a tremendous amount of magic power concentrated in that sphere.

“To think……you still have much in reserve…….”

“Cocytus BreathDark Dragon’s Roar”

This blacklight sphere was then released and slammed onto Felix.

“Gah……haaa……!!”

Felix tried to parry against it, but because the black matter was too powerful, it snapped his sword at its base, and Felix was pierced in his chest.

He could feel the Magic Gem buried inside him shattering.

With it, fresh blood spurted out of his body, and due to the intense pain, Felix immediately lost consciousness.

“Not yet. …… I can’t…… lose yet. ……”

His voice still repeated like a broken player, but it was going softer and softer.

Eventually, it couldn’t be heard anymore.

When I rushed in with Tia, the battle was already over.

“Lian……”

Claudia walked over to me.

Judging from her weak gait, she must have suffered some considerable injuries.

The other adventurers were all in tatters as well.

“Felix!”

The body of the top S-Class adventurer, Felix, is now lying on the ground

He was bathing in his own blood.

What had happened to him? Even his gray hair had turned completely white.

“Are you still alive!?”

Felix answered in his faint voice.

At his side, Sylvia and the Miller sisters continued to cast their healing spells.

“Someone. Tell me what happened here.”

“I’ll tell you.”

I asked, and Claudia gave me a short summary of what happened.

In the middle of their battle with Mad Eater – the Nova Type Sweeper, Redone intervened and killed Mad Eater himself because he was bored, then beat all of them up all at the same time. Upon arrival, Felix challenged him one-on-one, but he was severely defeated, ending up in his current state.

“Then where is Redone?”

“He’s gone.”

Claudia answered last.

“He seemed to have used up all his strength after defeating Felix. He looked very tired, and the white smoke rising from his body was probably a sign of it. He didn’t do anything more to us……and probably lost interest in us, seeing we’re severely beaten down already and can’t fight back, so he simply left.”

Come to think of it, if it’s that guy, it’s possible that he really did it after finding out that everyone here won’t be able to pose a good fight to him anymore.

I had only faced Redone for a short time, but I already had a vague idea of his personality.

Then again, it’s a good thing that he didn’t finish them all, based on how fickle he is.

“I couldn’t stop him……I couldn’t win. I’m sorry.”

A pained Felix told us.

“My magic gem has been shattered……It will probably take several years for me to repair it. I’m no longer……a force to be reckoned with.”

I’m not sure what this magic gem is, but I guess he means that he has suffered some pretty lasting damage that he won’t be able to fight him anymore – at least in years to come.

“No, you’re the reason we all survived. For that, we are really grateful.”

Claudia corrected Felix. The other adventurers also nodded in agreement.

“I see……so I was able to protect my friends in the end…….”

Finally, a faint smile appeared on Felix’s lips.

“Now, Lian. To you……I will leave the rest…….”

“Yeah, I know. Get some good rest.”

I looked him in the eyes and said it in a resolute tone.

“I already acquired the new powers. This Redone. I will defeat him.”

I told them my new strength.

A strength that surpasses the top adventurers, even Felix and Claudia and the rest.

But this means that I’m the only one who can fight him now.

Ah, by the way, there’s something I had to do first.

“We still have to do something about the sweeper army that’s still rampaging around in other places. I’m gonna go now and see if I can take all of them out.”

“Then let’s take these remnants out. Even if I’m like this, I can still defeat them.”

“Ara ara. You can’t do that. Not in that wrecked body of yours. Allow me to accompany him instead.”

It was then Tia who stepped forward, intervening in Claudia’s suggestion.

“You are……one of the Nova Types that commanded the Sweepers!”

The adventurers’ faces changed color upon seeing Tia.

I see. So they still don’t know she’s on our side now, do they?

Because of this, I immediately explained to them the whole story – minus the part about me having sex with her, of course.

But even with that, They were still looking at Tia suspiciously.

“Don’t forget that without my help, Lian won’t even gain power rivaling, if not surpassing, that of Redone. Believing me or not is up to you.”

“Let’s put that aside and eradicate all the remaining sweepers. But, then again, it’s no harm if we prove Tia’s words with the results of how powerful I am now?”

I followed up on Tia’s speech.

“I believe in him. Also, if Tia were still in Redone’s side, she wouldn’t have missed this perfect chance of killing us while we’re still in these battered states, you know?”

Georg was the first to agree with me.

I’m truly grateful.

After a thorough sweeping with the help of Tia, the adventurers began to be more or less convinced.

Soon, reinforcements from Lushbaron arrived. With their dragon transports, I rode the dragon with Tia and Claudia in tow to ‘sweep up’ the rest of the Sweepers that are still wreaking havoc in various regions of the continent.
