Since we had a serious topic last month, I thought we'd do something a little more lighthearted for March. It's been a while since I did an artist profile and even longer since I featured some vintage Femdom. Let's have a look at fetish artist Bill Ward.

The first thing you should know is there are two fetish artists with that name. This makes looking up their work tricky, especially since they lived basically during the same time. British fetish artist William Ward lived from 1927 - 1996. American cartoonist and fetish artist William Hess Ward lived from 1919 - 1998. We'll be looking at the work of the latter.

The American Bill Ward was a prolific artist of pinup girls, adult comics and fetish illustrations that were primarily featured in men's magazines. He can fairly be called one of the pioneers of early fetish art. Keep in mind this was a time when making one's living this way was a risky endeavor. There are still "obscenity" laws on the books in many states today, but back then it was much more likely they would actually be enforced.

His early work could be described as "classy" fetish art as his characters were often either fully clothed or at least had strategic adornments covering the nipples and crotches of otherwise scandalous women. His use of Conte crayon added a shiny luster to certain aspects of his drawings. Often the hair, eyes and jewelry of his female characters were highlighted.

As his career progressed and hardcore fetish material was more sought after, Bill really let his freak flag fly. His content became much more fixated on images of hardcore female domination and fetish attire. Often his work depicted men in elaborate bondage scenarios and women subjecting them to every act of BDSM discipline imaginable.
