Thanks mate! Alright, I can't wait for Rain to fix the messed up shit! Also, and this is to everyone, stay safe with the Corona virus going around, we aren't Rain with a purify skill.

LEMON

Thank you!!

Daoist

yay new chapter

Thank you!

Thank you!! Been starving for something to read.

Adrian Gorgey

Good stuff! Looking forward to how things develop in the city now that he's out, although the whole is a real shit show as it is. Hope he takes at least some of dungeon plates for himself. Also wondering when this wretched barrier will go down, even if it almost certainl saved them from being sacked and conquered.

Patrick camp

Staying away from Velika is what I'd want to do too, but I feel like not reporting in right away after she'd spent a bunch of money digging Rain out is going to come back to bite him in the ass.

LEMON

It's the middle of the night so no point in waking her up, especially since she is still partially injured

LEMON

I think everyone can agree that we all want to know more about that oversoul status.

> All he needed was a seed, in this case, his old teacher’s voice. It made no sense with his understanding of how memory actually worked, but there it was. But doesn't memory actually work exactly like that Aka the more different sensory associations there are the easier it is to recall something? So an exact same thing would be easier to recall if you remember how it was said, a specific smell from when it was said or a distinct colour of something associated with the situation or even taste. For example if it's some fact said by a person you care about or even love it's more likely for you to remember said fact. I distinctly remember disliking one super old Genesis game, cause i was sick when i was playing it. Or i remember a moment from another great game Story of Thor aka Beyond Oasis, cause i was watching George of the Jungle in tandem with playing it. I bet a ton of people associates some specific tastes and smells with the Holidays or even specific relatives.

Not a lot happens this chapter in terms of actual actions but it is packed with descriptive and emotional language. Loved the call back with the thief if he only knew who he robbed. Healer is becoming less and less of a dick so I hope he doesn't get killed when she gets a look at her leg. it is cool how you stay consistent with the limitations of overmana and memory, many authors will look up principles and have uplift characters that seem to have textbooks memorized or an internet connection to always know what they need to so that is a nice change. I am excited to see more action and reactions now that he is out and about able to make changes in the city. Showing him be worn down and still struggling with being out of armor make him a more human and relatable character plus it lets us know that the armor is not forever and different sets and powercreep are in the future. Finally this chapter brings to mind one thing, in the words of George Costanza " I was in the Pool".

But I bet we all wish we did have the purify skill. Even without a pandemic I would love to not have acne or need to scrub a toilet bowl ever again.

Silver Beard

I voted no. How many chapters did our MC dwell in darkness? Finally out...and takes a bath? Forgive but doesn’t he have ability to extend his aura out? 24 pages...only the last 3 worth rereading. That a fail imo. ESP sucks because not even the dreaded math. I’m going to drop for a few months...maybe MC will actually do something that matters in that time frame, but the suspense is unhealthy...for me. End of chapter 95 MC was rambling, maudlin...so 96 was more of the same. Ugh. Kudos for keeping Rain all over but hardly enjoyable. As for his condition...pretty obvious he’s capped out all his abilities and needs to grow/level. Thought clarity improved his brain power?!

Blaublue

Rain this chapter after starting to show symptoms of something all the very strong people of this world has: "Mah soul, mah broken soul!"

Beeees!

Does refrigerator bring things closer to a specific temp, or does it just make whatever it’s cooling colder? Hypothetically specific heat shouldn’t matter depending on the laws of conservation of energy and mana in the world, as a certain amount of mana used should lead to a specific amount of heat energy loss if it just cools proportionally to mana use. Conversely it is cooling towards a specific temp, the rate of temp change in real life is proportional to difference in temp. Idk if thermodynamics really needs more of a part in the story, but I definitely find it fun to think about.

Andrew

An interesting enough chapter I suppose, but it’s not the chapter that I have been hoping for all week.

OrangeBasket

It's too shorttttt

payforthat

#bugreport not sure if it's an actual error, but Rain needs to remember that specific heat is a measure by mass. Air has a mass of about 1kg per m3, water 1000kg. So it will take 4000 times as much energy to change temperature for same volume of each.

Andrew

Thank you!

Atlas Dwarf

Well given that Thermal Citizen and how the system can change based on beliefs and knowledge, it is probably rather important Rain remembers all he can about thermodynamics for Immolate and Refrigerate. I wouldn't even be surprised if oversoul wasn't affecting Wallace cause he didn't believe in it and Rain shouldn't be to far ahead of him in levels.

His Dad

good. no tables or stats. Good dialogue

I’ve had enough of these nothings happening chaps, I’m gonna cancel my subscription and save my valueless Aus dollars for toilet paper.

Dax

Food and sleep! Glad he is finally sorting out his priorities! xD

"Ameliah had told him of Staavo’s success with the generator, but who knew where the line was" i dont think this is possible with Ameliah finding Tallhearts camp abandoned when they talked last; im not even sure if they have met at that point in the story.

Chymor

If he keeps up the thermal control duties, then he will no doubt figure out to what extent auras care about that. It seems they do to some extent but mana has already shown the ability to violate thermodynamics. So it's likely significantly less than a ratio of 4000 in the difficulty of cooling water compared to air with auras.

Given that he can remember Maxwells equation and highschool physics lectures, I think it is safe to assume that he will eventually remember everything he learned at university. Most computer scientists are forced to take some hardware courses, where they learn basic logic gates, and how computers are constructed from them. This means that if he can force the system to make a basic logic gate (i don't think it would require that much pressure, given what he can already do), he would be able to build the calculator that he always dreams about, and maybe eventually a computer! I, at least, think it would be a cool way to go about the calculator problem.

Anonymous

One more thing, I think it is really nice to read a(n isekai) story, where the protagonist actually has some basic moral decency (the moral compass of people from the modern era), compared to the super-calculating characters that are so common nowadays.

Thenais

the guy is tired and fed up, and all he can say to robbers is : "it's not good, you shouldn't do that." ... i want to cry

Gabriel

Thank you and best of health!

I, too, dislike some of the more boring chapters where he just does math or otherwise absolutely nothing.. but I thought this chapter was one of the better ones.

tibbish

Well he did threaten them with death and they did seem to believe him to some extent given their actions. So yeah he is a pretty half assed at best Batman wannabe right now but he has also been through quite the ordeal for several days so it makes sense he is pretty far from performing at his best here.

Ninetails

I don't think logic gates are a good path to creating a calculator for him, though it might theoretically be possible, it would probably require a insane amount of power (mental and over the system) to create a calculaltor. My impression is that he is working with a modable UI. Him working with it seems kind of like how one would go about more or less blindly modding an UI, in the terms of not having any documentation for it. It is probably much easier to get it to calculate stuff for you than it is to build a simulation of a calculator through logical statements.

Is it wrong from me to ask for a little build up in the release speed? 1 chapter a week os kinda slow, I don't write so Sorry If I'm being unrealistic or unreasonably, I Just wich for more chapters Thats all. :)

This is the last update for the month?

Empty Shelf

Not to harp on this, but it really is nice to see Rain actually interacting with people. That said, I'm firmly of the opinion that the pace of the story needs to change, and soon. The story entered a slow phase around the start of the year, and while there has been 'some' solid world-building and 'some' character development, the vast majority has been superficial filler. It doesn't help that, alongside the story itself slowing down, new chapters are coming slower as well. To illustrate my problem, this chapter consisted of three main pieces: a scene with some thieves in which nothing of note happens; a conversation with the healer in which nothing of note is learned; and the main body of the chapter dealing with the issue of cooling down the city which is, being generous, a B-plot. I think it's fair to say that, at this rate, the story is at least 4 chapters (a minimum of two weeks but more likely three) from a return to the A-plot, which has been abandoned for the better part of two months.

SenescentSoul

Yes. There is a lot of planning stuff that I need to do, which is slowing me down. Unlikely to be a bonus chapter this week, and definitely not before Wednesday.

Jerzylo

I think Rain is going to end up having to shut down the dome himself

Thransk

I disagree with you, but completely understand where you are coming from based on past chapters. Personally, I really enjoyed the last two chapters. It's clear that Rain is being setup as a potential candidate for city lord and he is having to cope with how his soul is affecting people of a lower level. The mugging provides hints of what exactly is happening to him alongside giving insight to his initial feelings of being feared by enemies. The healer conversation showed that not everyone is affected by his issue and how Rain is maturing to empathize with people he previously didn't get along with and starting to be respected by them. It wouldn't surprise me if he receives an endorsement from people stronger than him at some point. While heating the city is a sub plot, it directly ties into the theme of working within limitations, just as Rain is constrained by his level, so to is the city constrained by the shield. Overall, I think the story has shifted to focus on character growth well. It is jarring to go from power leveling to almost nothing, but it has given time for Rain to adjust to his powers. Not just how to best use them, but how they affect the people around him. Like I said, I understand feelings of frustration with the story, but I will continue to support it because I feel like the writing level has been pretty good so far.

Pyrefiend

The only skill that Rain hasn't maxed at this point is mana manipulation. If I remember correctly, one of the enchanted items he looted from the bodies was an item for training mana manipulation by letting you transfer mana in and out at a decent rate. If he was to max his last skill, could that have some bearing on breaking his cap? It would be a rare thing for anyone else to accomplish, lacking his regen.

Onathan

I don't think he'll be able to break the cap that way. Though he'd probably unlock some cool classes that's all I see though. On the other hand, while I doubt it'd be pretty cool to see how he would break this cap, it seems like a hard cap and not a soft one.

Onathan

So lately I've seen a lot of people talking about breaking the level cap in past chapters, and honestly I'm not sure where this has come from. Is this just a bit of fannon or was there something specific I missed to make it seem like this was something that Rain could do?(Edited)

Pyrefiend

Breaking his cap seems like the only possible way for Rain to progress at this point. He's trapped in the city with no hope of leaving soon, and it would be pretty poor writing for a lvl 25+ blue to just manifest in the city. The story is based on progression and optimization, so it makes sense that it will happen, just by the lack of alternatives.

Anonymous

Nice chapter! Quite the interesting direction things are going. He's setting up to be able to have a big impact in the town.

ParadoxFox

Aw man, I was half expecting the oversoul thing to work on awakened. Would have been pretty epic if Rain walked up to Velika with an oversoul aura. I guess this means that the oversoul thing is pretty rare. I guess skills that give free XP like essence meditation are probably not very common. So it strikes me that Velika's pretty desperate at this point. She's stuck in a prison that even the Empire couldn't break open with no way out. Without Rain, the city will probably run out of fresh water and food, so she really needs him.

Atlas Dwarf

It's probably a good thing oversoul wouldn't work on Velika with how on edge she is. If she does end up being able to sense it though hopefully she doesn't think Rain's attacking her. Also maybe oversoul doesn't work on awakened cause their soul is shielded by the 'container' for levels? If that's the case it could still be possible to use on awakened given that we might have seen the 'container' breached/bypassed before with the Warden, Velika on the dungeon, and the Maajistral device with the mana drain.

Stephen Pearson

It's unusual for S.Soul to miss a release - hope everything is ok! [Edit]: Thanks to Johann for pointing out that I had it backwards - regular release is weekend.

Anonymous

He didn't miss a release. He releases every sunday. Sometimes there are additional releases on wednesday or thursday.

Anonymous

...Sanctuary would make a good adventurer name for Rain.

Loipers

If he gets prismatic intent and all the defensive auras, yeah.
