Well, the good news is that a fair few (thought not all) of Fairy Tail's side characters get a decent amount of focus. Anyone in particular you're currently attached to? Stupid blood censor, making all of the injuries look far more pathetic than they actually are... Timeline-wise, Gray's backstory was 10 years ago, and Igneel went missing 7 years ago, so Gray should be at least 3 years older in that scene where he was fighting Natsu, not younger XD Also means they've been fighting each other for near enough 7 years. Also I'm a little frustrated with myself because there's something you've been saying, and I'm 90% certain the anime has already given the information, but I don't want to remind you what it is in case of the 10% where I'd be spoiling that your theory is right.
