This whole episode is based on the beginning scene of Episode 1. Some unicorns (those three) ask Twilight to join Moon Dancer's party, but she refuses and they talk to themselves about how Twilight only studies and isn't interested in friendship. She also briefly passes Lyra, which is why she is mentioned. Spike had Moon Dancer's gift ready, but Twilight told him they don't have time for such things.
