The core of this episode revolves around the fact that Four Square is one of those simple games that has tons of variations with varying degrees of complexity. The way it's played by the kids of the Creek, they seem to have collected DOZENS of these rulesets, some of which may or may not involve every player, and the person in the fourth square, "The Ace", is in charge of the game and gets to dictate which, if any, variant rules apply. Under Toman's reign (or possibly earlier) the variants completely eclipsed the standard game, which seems to be at least part of why Craig "rebelled", hoping to let the others play a more casual game sometimes, or at least with fairer variant rule combos.
