So, if you haven't already seen it, Patreon announced today that they've heard the massive amounts of negative feedback towards their plan to charge patrons more money, and have decided to reverse that decision. For the time being, what you pledge is what you're charged.

There's a lot of things to unpack here. The first being, huzzah! What seems like a genuine apology, or the nearest a corporation gets to a genuine apology, and it seems like they listened. They should have asked creators and patrons before hand, they shouldn't have rolled this out as a surprise, and for a lot of creators, the damage has been done. Patreon's "we're all just pals working together" image is destroyed, its reputation permanently tarnished. Patreon is a business only, and we have to continue to approach it as such.

There will still be changes moving forward, but hopefully Patreon will be more transparent from this point on. What they're not saying is what the price hike was supposed to be for in the first place. They tried to pass it off as something that would let creators make more money on their end, which was proven not to be the case when thousands of patrons across the site removed their pledges. The actual reason for the price hike remains unsaid, but there are two main theories.

1) Greed. They just wanted to make more money. Considering their making all the money right now, that's not a good look, hence why they would never fess up to it.

2) Patreon needs to adjust their business model to comply with government regulations. They CAN'T public confess to that as it would be admitting fault and get them into hot water. I'm personally putting my money on this one.

Whatever their goal was, they still haven't met it, so whatever changes they make in the near future will have to address it. We have to be prepared for that, but for right now, we've turned the tides.

I want to thank every single one of you for your support and patience. A lot of creators lost a bunch of patrons. I didn't lose a single one, you all went "let's wait and see," and I couldn't be more grateful, I couldn't feel more blessed. We're "back to normal" for right now, and whatever Patreon becomes in light of all of this, I hope you can all join me there.

I'll be more than happy to pay one transaction fee per month. I'll even pay my bill in advance it that helps with some of the payment timing issues.

Even if it had changed, I'd have stuck around! XD
