I personally love this episode - though, it does feel out of place. I'd maybe have put this one after ep6 instead of 7, with a few slight changes, but that's being really picky. And mostly because I don't think this one is appreciated as much as it deserves literally because it followed such a high tension moment. Instead of sitting back and enjoying the backstory (which actually is needed, which you'll see in the finale) the audience starts the episode keyed up and wanting to skip to the end to find out what happens! It's the same formula Flanagan followed in Hill House (end on "danger" cliffhanger, have a backstory episode, wrap up with finale) but I don't think it felt as natural here. Just my opinion. BUT! The placement of the episode aside, I adore the story. It's a lovely and tragic short story all on its own. And it makes it so much more chilling because the "bad guys" aren't any badder than the "good guys" and you can feel for everyone. Excited to see what you think of the ending and to get to my favorite of the 4, assuming you continue. 😉
