I *love* that you didn't get this until the very end! I was the same...saying, "wait...what???" For the last five minutes of the episode, the first time I saw it. Of course, if you go back...you'll see clues all along the way. And anything that threw you off the trail was literally hearsay or unreliable narrator accounts. 😁

One cool detail I love is up until now we've never seen Pearl shape shift. Out of the OG Crystal gems she's the only one who hadn't done so on screen. I've always assumed this was the last time she ever did shape shift, either because it's just not her style or perhaps she was too uncomfortable after this event to try again.
