Just to be clear the first season is very monster of the week with a continual plot thrown in. About halfway through season 2 it flips around. Mostly a continual story with a couple of monster of the week episodes the rest of the series

I prefer the more linear storyline. But I also really enjoy season 1. It really helps you feel the bond between dean and Sam and understand what they go through. Also the picture quality will get vastly better. This show started on the wb lol. So long ago and didn’t have the budget early on.
