I was so glad you enjoyed this episode. It gets mixed reviews from some reactors, but I like it very much. I enjoyed your distress because I experienced it myself at one time. I’m of the opinion season-6 begins with a 2-parter and ends with a 1-episode finale because season-6 gives us the story of River Song whose timeline is back to front with the Doctor’s. If the season is back to front as well. I also think this episode reveals or at least suggests what the Doctor whispered in Melody Pond’s ear as he lay dying in Let’s Kill Hitler. In that episode, the Doctor told Melody to pass on a message to River Song. Upon hearing it, Melody, looking somewhat moved, said, “Well, I’m sure she knows.” I think it was then that Melody realized the message for River Song was for her. And I think the message the Doctor had for whispered was what we heard twice in this episode: “River Song, you are always and completely forgiven.”
