Far as the camera work goes I think it's more than just the angles, I don't think a single shot in that hotel was properly centered, every shot felt... Off. Couple that with the liminal space of an empty, ordinary hotel and you have a recipe for success

I’m convinced this episode was a callback to “The Eleventh Hour,” when the Doctor said: “Amy Pond, there’s something you’d better understand about me because it’s important, and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a madman with a box!!!” This is confirmed by what the Doctor tells Amy in the hotel: “I’m not a hero. I really am just a madman in a box.” I think the Doctor saw himself in Room 11.
