Hello everyone!

I just came to the end of a series of updates for all of my “Alternate Martial Classes”, and I wanted to go back through and do one final update for each of the classes so they are all in line with each other. Starting with the Alt Fighter & Alt Fighter: Expanded!

If you are unfamiliar, my Alternate Fighter is my attempt to give the Fighter Class in 5e some interesting decisions (both in and out of combat) without radically increasing its power in the early tiers of the game. This is done through my system of “Martial Exploits”.

As always, I’m open to any feedback/constructive criticisms you may have!

ALTERNATE FIGHTER & EXPANDED v3.2.0

Fighting Styles:
These have all (hopefully) been buffed to be relatively equal in power while letting you explore different fantasies!

Champion:
The 3rd, 7th, and 10th level features were reworked to better capture the fantasy of playing a paragon of physical might!

Exploits:
Quite a few minor changes here. The highlights include brace up giving more temp hit points (on average), first aid being actual healing (gasp), and a few Exploits that were too niche were cut (flaming shot, shield impact, execute, and take cover), and 5th-degree Exploits can only be used once per long rest!

Alternate Fighter: Expanded:
A few minor changes to Exploits and Archetype Exploit lists to reflect the changes.

  • Fighting Style // Brawler // Renamed (Unarmed Fighting). Reworked.
  • Fighting Style // Classical Swordplay // +2 to attacks w/ finesse.

  • Champion // Devastating Critical // NEW 10th level feature
  • Commander // Commander Exploits // Updated with Exploit updates.
  • Marksman // Legendary Marksman // Slightly reworked how this works.
  • Master at Arms // Advanced Technique // Clarified that this scales with Fighter level. Also clarified that “one Fighting Style” only applies to the Styles from this feature.
  • Master at Arms // Master of Forms // These Exploits don’t become Martial Exploits.
  • Exploits // All // No Exploit does more than 2 die rolls per Exploit Die.
  • Exploits // 1st // Brace Up // Temp hit points now equal to 1 + CON mod.
  • Exploits // 1st // Commanding Presence // NEW Exploit.

  • Knight Errant // KE Exploits // Shield Impact replaced with Parry. Honor Duel was renamed.
  • Ronin // Archetype Exploits // Replaced rustic intuition with commanding presence. Aggressive Sprint moved to 2nd degree. Added Counter.
  • Shadowdancer // Conjure Shade // Clarified some things. Moved “attacking from your Shade” to this ability description (no longer in its stat block).
  • Shadowdancer // Dance of Shadows // Renamed (Shadowy Transposition). Now an unlimited teleport/switch as a bonus action.
  • Shadowdancer // Shade Strike // NEW feature!
  • Shadowdancer // Dark Sacrifice // Must be used when targeted by an attack.
  • Sylvan Archer // SA Exploits // Precision Strike replaced Flaming Shot.
  • Sylvan Archer // Enchanted Shots // Restructured for clarity. Enchanted Shots regain on a long rest, but you can use Exploit Dice to fuel them.
  • Sylvan Archer // Sylvan Lore // Spellcasting mod is Wisdom. You learn Sylvan.
  • Sylvan Archer // Archetype Exploits // Replaced lightship with rustic intuition.
