Babe, wake up! Alt Blood Hunter update just dropped!

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the 1.0 version of my Alternate Blood Hunter. I think I've managed to smooth out a lot of the bumps with the class (mostly fiddly things with the subclasses).

The biggest change has been limiting Crimson Offering to work only with melee weapons. Sadly, I felt it had to go in order to justify the d12 hit die.

Let me know what you think of the update!

Change Log v1.0.0 -----> v1.1.0

  • A bunch of random grammar, spelling, and phrasing fixes.
  • Crimson Offering // Now only usable with melee weapons
  • Alchemists // Aberrant Alchemy // Clarified how Passive Mutagens work.
  • Pale Moon // Beast Form transformation limited to once per short/long rest.
  • Salt & Iron // Spectral Mastery // Clarified how long resting works with this.
  • Undying Thirst // Vampiric Nature // Fangs now deal piercing damage.
  • Undying Thirst // Essence Drain // Now uses piercing damage for MHP regen.
  • Witch Knight // Sanguine Warrior // Removed the ability to use Pact Magic spell slots to fuel your Blood Rites. Replaced with a damage-type change feature.
  • Witch Knight // Profane Sacrifice // Limited to once per short/long rest (no more Vital Sacrifice + bag of rats to get infinite spell slots).
  • Witch Knight // Spell List // Added detect evil & good and phantasmal killer.
  • Blood Rites // Senseless // Now you repeat the save at the end of each turn.
  • Blood Rites // Exsanguination // Limited to once per short/long rest.

Alternate Blood Hunter by laserllama

When the young man's blindfold was removed he found himself in a dimly lit room surrounded by hooded figures. He stood in front of a small dais that held a vial of gleaming crimson liquid. Months of training had led him to this moment.

I like the limitations of crimson rite being only melee adds more to risky play style have to right in some ones face.

How come the limitation on the beast form what makes it so strong ?

laserllama

It was a little too strong that way - you could Vital Sacrifice to transform, basically trade 1d4 hit points for 35 hit points. You can still transform once per short/long rest, which in most games is almost every combat or two.

That’s fair I was thinking it was because it’s kinda wired that a blood hunter can “wild shape”more times then a Druid level 19 or less.

laserllama

Agreed. Thematically it worked, but compared to the other in-game options it was an outlier. I think once per rest will be fine. Especially considering the original class couldn’t do it at all.

Using Crimson Offering on ranged weapons could be an idea for a new subclass in the future. Might be too strong though, idk

All of these look like good changes! I can't wait to see what other subclasses you come up with, I think a devil themed one is an obvious choice. Maybe a summoner BH that has a Frankenstein's monster-esque companion that it can use as a health pack, or maybe has a similar ability to a lot of large undead that spit out smaller ones when they die. Maybe a fungus themed subclass similar to your Saboteur Rogue, where it uses fungi to make potions that replicate certain spells. There are so many possibilities!

Crow's Parliament

Hey, I saw on reddit that you teased an Order of the Silvered Blades with exploits for the Blood Hunter. Is that something that's still on the table or that you have planned? What about an Alternate Blood Hunter: Expanded or a collection of orders for the base Blood Hunter?

laserllama

I probably will not do a compendium of Orders for the official Blood Hunter, but I could see myself adding a few subclasses to the Alt Blood Hunter in the next update!
