Hey all, here's an update to my personal favorite piece of homebrew - the Savant! I made some pretty simple (but significant) changes to the base class, some QOL tweaks to the Academic Disciplines, and a major formatting overhaul, so I'm interested to hear what you think!

Savant v4.7.0 Changelog:

  • Proficiencies // Removed hand crossbows, rapiers, and whips.
  • Starting Equipment // Removed the rapier option
  • Adroit Analysis // Rewrote phrasing with the “Mark” keyword. Now requires your concentration. Small changes to list of characteristics you can learn.

  • Profound Insight // Reworked - Have some fun with your DM with this one!
  • Undisputed Genius // Removed the Wisdom bump, added advantage on Intellect Dice.
  • Archaeologist // Adventuring Academic // Clarified and reworked this ability to be useful.
  • Archaeologist // Daring Determination // Cut the interaction between your Mark and opportunity attacks. Moved Dexterity Wondrous Intellect buff here.
  • Archaeologist // Lore Master // Clarified that it is possible for you to learn nothing. Removed buff to this feature at 17th level. Added a buff to magic item save DC.
  • Archaeologist // Master Archaeologist // Clarified that you can only recharge magic items that regain charges at the end of a long rest.
  • Investigator // Student of Truth // Added the ability to use INT with Insight and a bonus to your Passive Perception score equal to your INT.
  • Investigator // Rough & Tumble // Reworked with the new Wondrous Intellect feature
  • Investigator // Adroit Defense // Reworked.
  • Investigator // Ear to the Ground // Added a ribbon ability to force creatures not to lie.
  • Investigator // Peerless Focus // Streamlined and Reworked
  • Investigator // Master Investigator // Fixed typo, this is a 17th-level feature. Clarified how your Truesight works.
  • Naturalist // Student of Nature // You can now use INT for Survival checks
  • Naturalist // Survivalist // Is now a Strength save to escape your Snares
  • Naturalist // Master Naturalist // Buffed Call of the Wild
  • Tactician // Student of War // Added persuasion proficiency and a free Scholarly Pursuit from a limited (martial focused) list.
  • Tactician // Tactical Commander // Removed temp hit points on Orders

An elf cleaned her glasses with the corner of her cloak as the dust settled. The emperor had paid her a large sum to locate this forgotten place, and after months of pouring over ancient maps, she had pieced together the one-lost location of the primeval temple.

The Physician's Master Physician ability says "Also, any creature that expends a Hit Die while within 30 feet of you treats their Hit Dice as its maximum possible roll." As written, it sounds like this effect would benefit enemies as well as allies. It's unlikely to be an issue very often (it's pretty rare for one's enemies to be spending Hit Dice within 30 feet), but perhaps "any creature of your choice" would work.

I don’t think RAW enemies have abilities that expend Hit Dice other then resting. And if an enemy is within 30 feet I don’t think you’d be allowed to rest. Open to being wrong tho!

I've been playing a Physician in a campaign and we JUST got to level 5, and now you release an update moving the additional damage to level 2??? How dare you. Jokes aside, I love this update! The only issue I have is the name of Perfect Recall. It really should be Total Recall. Missed opportunity, honestly. EDIT: On a second look, it looks like you put light crossbows in as a proficiency, but that should be covered under simple weapons!
