Hey all! SUPER excited to post a massive update for my favorite piece of homebrew that I've ever created - the Savant Class!

Savant Class

Changelogs are below, but I've made a few small changes to the base class (renaming Unyielding Mind to Intellect Dice, giving you more of them, and making more abilities use them). I've also buffed the butts off each subclass - hopefully, people aren't saying "the savant is utterly useless in combat" now!

Savant Expanded

At long last, I am finally ready to reveal an expansion for the base class. Included here are some fun roleplaying quirk tables, actually useful Feats for Intelligence-based characters, some magic items for my Savants, and four new Academic Disciplines!

Culinarian: Who doesn't like to cook? Become a strange and wondrous monster chef as you compile your Cook Book and prepare delicious Morsels to buff your allies!

Orator: Back from the great beyond, the Orator is hopefully useful now!

Philosopher: With all the changes to Intellect Dice I think I am finally happy with this subclass from the original 1.0.0 version - back and better than ever!

Rune Scribe: Based on the (very) old retired UA Rune Scribe prestige class and taking some inspiration from the Rune Knight comes this new (maybe unbalanced) subclass.

  • Proficiencies // Added rapiers and scimitars
  • Starting Equipment // Moved the starting wealth option here.
  • Quick Wit // Replaced Perfect Recall. Gives you a more efficient bonus action.
  • Intellect Die // Replaced Unyielding Mind, more dice (INT + WIS mod), starts at d4.
  • Accelerated Reflexes // Moved “Ready action on initiative” here.

  • Investigator // Peerless Focus // Removed buff to Perception checks. Removed Intellect Die recharge. Added expanded crit range (18-20).
  • Investigator // Master Investigator // Gave 60 feet of modified Truesight.
  • Naturalist // Student of Nature // Removed language about “attuning to your environment”. Made it something permanent you gain by taking 1 hour.
  • Naturalist // Survivalist // Added a Cunning Artisan ability. Traps now take an action to repeat the saving throw.
  • Naturalist // Adapt & Overcome // Can change on a short or long rest.
  • Naturalist // Call of the Wild // Can impose disadvantage on a creatures attempt to break out of your charm as a reaction.
  • Naturalist // Master Naturalist // Updated language to work with new features.
  • Physician // Student of Medicine // Moved “Rending Strike” here.
  • Physician // Combat Medic // Removed the need for targets of your Combat Medic actions to use their reaction to regain hit points, etc. Renamed Adrenaline Jolt
  • Tactician // Tactical Commander // Added the ability to spend an Intellect Die to grant the target of an Order temporary hit points.
  • Tactician // Master Tactician // Modified to work with new Tactical Commander
