Hey all, started working on a large update for my compendium of Ranger Archetypes and wanted to drop a quick preview of the progress I've made! As always I. open to feedback and constructive criticism.

Bounty Hunter (Updated).  This is probably going to be the closest I ever get to doing an "Urban Ranger" - a Ranger that specializes in hunting and disabling humanoids with their Maneuvers (Battle Master version from the PHB).

Buccaneer (NEW). An aquatic themed ranger that would love to work alongside an Oath of the Corsair Paladin! Swim the seas, climb the rigging, and eventually wield the powerful magic of the high seas!

Druidic Guardian (New). An explicitly more druidic Ranger Archetype that revolves around a limited version of Wild Shape. I considered giving them full Moon Druid beast progression without the Elementals or beasts that can swim or fly, do you think that would be balanced?

Always a fan of adding maneuvers to the martial classes, and Bounty Hunter is no exception! Im split on the Buccaneer, I love the abilities and the flavor they give, but I don't feel like that flavor is for something called a Buccaneer. Do you think enough of the high seas flavor can come from the core class? I don't have any good suggestions for other names if not called that though. I think I see what you're getting at with a wildshaping ranger, and I like the idea. I feel like any kind of combat wildshape in solidly in the Moon Druid realm so I think you're good on CR limits. I do think for utility you could add swimming and flying speeds somewhere though! If the wildshape stays combat focused I think giving it some different way of manifesting would work, such as granting special senses or enhancements, or some way of blending normal ranger martial skills and transformations.

Glad you like the Bounty Hunter! Been watching a lot of Mandolorian/Boba Fett so it was fun to come up with the various abilities/Maneuvers that fit. What sort of abilities would a Buccaneer (pirate) have that don't have to do with water magic? Maybe I'm just confused as to what you mean.

When I think of a Buccaneer, I think of a swashbuckler, but without the focus on panache. What I'm torn about is if the high flying boating adventurer flavor comes through with the base ranger enough that the subclass features can take a smaller role. I imagine an expert seaman firing a long arm from one deck to the next, or having a sword fight on port city rooftop. To be honest, I might just be conflating Buccaneer and Swashbuckler!
