First thing I’m noticing is the d10 hit die and the extra attack feature, I’m assuming this is intended to be more similar to other melee classes?

That's the idea! Monk's already have Extra Attack in the Player's Handbook, and the idea between the d10 hit die is to make Monk's less MAD (multiple ability dependent). With a d10 hit die you can afford to have a lower Constitution score and focus more on Dexterity and Wisdom.
