Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to the vol. 3 soundtrack!!!!  I had a lot of fun - and also tears - with this one!  The opening theme means SO much more to me now that I'm on the other side of the volume....and we even got some villain tracks!!!  I have to say, listening to the growth in Casey's voice over these volumes gets me almost as teary as the series itself!  She just does so many different tones so well!  I love that we got some happier, fun ones in there, like Sun's and Neon Katt's, to balance out the darkness of the villain songs and also the UTTER SADNESS of the last track!!!  So beautiful and well done, seeing as how it was equally relatable to Pyrrha as it was to Monty.  What a beautiful tribute!  Can't wait for Vol. 4!!!!  Enjoy!!  ~ MH

I haven't finished the video yet (I'm at "it's my turn"), just before continuing, I wanted to say that if you liked this one, I can't wait to see your reaction with a certain song in the volume 4. Weiss songs are the best for me and made the character grow for me, so much so that she is my favorite of the four main protagonists.

I'm not crying its just my allergies are acting up and i just got done chopping onions. Loved your reaction to this soundtrack its one of favorites of the volumes. PYT stands for pretty young thing also i keep forgetting to tell you the ship name for Sun and Blake is Black Sun. Another thing the lyric in cold "your star still in the sky" i believe is a reference to some fans that named a star after Monty .

Good catch, you could totally say When It Falls is from Cinder’s perspective. “This is not a tragedy, it’s not an accident” is indeed taken directly from her speech in chapter 9. I personally think that all RWBY openings are from Ruby’s perspective except for This Will Be The Day (which is ABOUT Ruby) and this one. The most important things to take from I’m The One are the foreshadowing of Emerald’s semblance and the confirmation of how abusive Mercury’s dad really was. Also, the “your girlfriend’s purse” line is a reference to their battle with Coco and Yatsu, which is funny because Coco is actually a lesbian. Mirror Mirror II and It’s My Turn perfectly put together and summarize the little glimpses we’ve gotten at Weiss’ childhood and her father. I especially like the sad turn Mirror Mirror II takes only to end in an inspiring note with Weiss looking at a brighter future. It also makes me think about how her team and especially Ruby changed the way she saw the world around her and herself and I cry every time. Divide is such a good Salem song. Like the notes said, it’s a direct reference to that conversation with Oz that started in chapter 1 and was continued in volume 3 that I mentioned. Prepare to love her, best villain ever. About Cold… Yeah, sorry. Sad RWBY songs are really heart-wrenching. You’ll see. A few last things I wanted to add. Are you aware that there is a Ruby character short before Volume 4? You should probably watch that before chapter 1, since it’s what introduced us to the new art and animation style. Volume 4 is a slower volume focused on recovery and learning to deal with loss and grief and I can’t wait to see your reactions. You have no idea how much I love your analyses of both the episodes and the songs. You might be slowly becoming my favorite RWBY reactor, I feel like you truly understand these characters and the story they want to tell with them. When you were listening to Divide and said that she can’t put out Ruby’s spark I got chills.

I forgot that there were two Weiss songs this volume. Weiss has come so far and it only has been three volumes. I'm looking forward to your reaction to her next song, both in the actual chapter and in the soundtrack, because it's my absolute favorite song in all the RWBY soundtracks so far. I totally agree with you about Roman. I wish they kept him around. "Divide" gives me chills, that song is pure Salem. You'll see more of her going forwards. "Cold" always gets me, I forgot to have tissues at hand too.

Salem has such a unique design, and I am looking forward to when you listen to one of my fav RWBY songs in a few volumes from now, but glad you enjoyed it :)

Also next week when you do the WoR videos you could maybe do the Volume 4 Short the same time :) also when you have finished Volume 6 theres a book I have called RWBY COMPANDIUM, I may have spelt that wrong or said it wrong but its an amazing book filled of artwork and interviews and lore and Grimm designs etc and even pictures of the rooster teeth team etc, its an amazing book like 200 pages but only after RWBY V6 cause I think they released the book shortly after that :) xxx

Yay! Thanks! And that's a good point about the openings being from Ruby's perspective, with a few exceptions. Yes, we did get some info about Emerald and Mercury in that one! Ohhhh that's what the "purse" line meant! Huh! The Weiss songs here were really amazing and helped me appreciate Weiss even more! So true that her team has changed how she sees things! I love that we are picking up Salem's conversation from vol. 1 here in vol. 3! I can't wait to see more Salem! No kidding about how sad RWBY songs can be, but they are so well done too!!!!!!!! :'D Ohhhh no I didn't know that about the character short! Any ideas on where I can find that? Thank you! It just so happens I didn't have time to record Vol. 4 this week (just the World of Remnants) so it works out well! Thanks! She does, her look is amazing and so scary! Can't wait for more RWBY/soundtracks!!! Ahh yes, the vol. 4 short! I recorded World of Remnant already but can definitely do the short before moving on to vol. 4! Any ideas on where to find the short? The book sounds awesome!!!!!!!!! I can imagine that something full of lore, art, details, etc. is especially poignant with a show like this, where the details are so carefully plotted out and the visuals are so stunning!!!!!!!! Thanks!

This comment is especially long but that’s just because of how much I love RWBY with it being my favorite show. I love the opening a lot. It’s so dark from the visuals to the lyrics and even the name When It Falls. I think there are better openings but this 1 is still good and serves its purpose well. However this definitely has the best visuals of the 1st 3 volumes at least in my opinion. Also back when this volume was coming out some people realized maybe not how dark but definitely that the show was going to go dark but many people did not even though in my opinion it’s pretty blatant. I think it was a combination of not being detail oriented and wishful thinking. Finally whenever a RWBY song slows down whether it’s to be impactful, sad or scary I get chills. The 2nd song is great with how it gives us some insight into Emerald and Mercury as characters. The references in the song to Emerald’s semblance and Mercury’s metal legs as well as both of their dark back stories Emerald being poor, alone and on the streets and Mercury having an abusive childhood are really cool and interesting. I love how it’s basically a song of them bragging but they can back it up as well as being about villainous ideology at least the ideology of these 2 characters. Even though parts of it are sad I love It’s My Turn. 1st of all it’s a great song but also it gives us great insight into Weiss’s relationship with her father, her as a character and her character development. Like we knew her relationship with her father was not doing but we didn’t know how bad. The implications from the song and the other Weiss song on this soundtrack about verbal and emotional abuse are upsetting but I think it helps us better understand her as a character. I love how this song is just Weiss talking about how much she has been able to change thanks to seeing more of the world and other perspectives. It was great seeing how much you connected with the song and it just makes you want to cheer her on. She’s not my favorite character but I do think she’s the strongest and best character even if I can’t say why. Also yeah all Weiss songs are the best even if I think there are songs I love more. I love how in addition to dark songs RWBY also has lighthearted and wholesome songs to balance things out. The 4th song is great and fits Sun perfectly. And while I do not personally ship Blacksun I do love the friendship of Blake and Sun’s relationship. I love Neon as a song it’s just so snappy and upbeat and the jazzy and electronic instrumentals add so much. I think it’s great how this song is just Neon throwing shade at Yang and making a diss track. Also I agree Neon’s design is amazing. And now onto Mirror, Mirror Part 2 it’s such a great song but really depressing. I love learning more about Weiss and her background and this song is all about that. The lyric “when disapproval’s all your shown the safest place is alone” always gives me chills. Just thinking about Weiss believing the best way to protect herself was to isolate herself is to me 1 of the saddest things ever and I love how the songs tone and instrumental reflects that. And now Weiss is going back to the kingdom and home where she wasn’t happy. Also I want to remind you that RWBY are Canon but not completely and what I mean by that is the songs reflect themes of the show and characters but not every part of the songs are supposed to be completely taken at face value. Saying that however Weiss songs are the most Canon and most plot relevant of them all. And now to talk about Divide 1 of my favorite RWBY songs and in my opinion 1 of the best. It’s the epitome of a villain song and I love how dark and savage the lyrics are and how hard-hitting they are. It also fits perfectly for it to be played right after Salem’s epic and chilling speech. Also since this was referenced in the speech this song is Salem talking about humanity and talking to Ozpin especially with how it references the discussion we heard between them in the premier of volume 1 and the finale of volume 3. Also the piano, drum and guitar instrumentals are fantastic especially with how hard the song goes and how well it fits the tone of the show now. I absolutely adore the slow melodic and eerily creepy the part that is the bridge. I think the best way to describe this song is to compare it to Disney villain songs or rock ballads in plays it’s the perfect villain anthem in my opinion. I love how much the song is connected to major themes of the show like hope, courage and trust and how this song is in direct opposition of those themes. Also this song is very much connected to who Salem is a character and I can’t wait for you to find out more and if this isn’t obvious 1 of her major themes is division with the title being Divide and 1 of the lyrics starting with “Divide them”. And now to talk about Cold… The song is hard to talk about but it deserves a lot of praise. It’s written so well but it’s probably 1 of if not the saddest RWBY song. It’s amazing how this song can be interpreted as Jaune’s thoughts about Pyrrha and actually is Jeff Williams’s thoughts about Monty. Especially because Jeff was very much inspired by Monty and I can’t remember exactly but I think Monty was involved in making Jeff a part of RWBY after he had already done work on Red vs Blue. The picture that is used is indeed very sad. This is a very depressing and bittersweet song lyrics wise but it has heartwarming elements because it shows even more how much Pyrrha helped Jaune and how she will still inspire him even if moving forward is going to be 1 of the hardest things he has ever done. This song never fails to make me cry not only because of how it relates to the characters but also how it relates to Monty. And the line that I connect with most is “Now it’s cold without you here it’s like winter lasts all year”. Take all my hugs for the sadness this song caused for you. Also I know I told you that Alex Abraham works on the instrumentals and he is the main one who works on instrumentals but Jeff helps out sometimes and is one who does almost all of the instrumentals in the songs he is a genius with the guitar although there are guests that help out with the instrumentals sometimes. Finally each soundtrack has one acoustic track of a previous song and because they aren’t new you probably don’t want to react to them but I hope you have at least listened to them on your own time although there are 1 or 2 acoustic tracks I think are worth reacting to and I will bring them up when you are close to finishing the volumes that those tracks are on the soundtrack for I think it’s for the volume 6 and 7 soundtracks. This was an amazing reaction and I can’t wait for you to get to volume 4. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I agree that it's good to balance out the sad or dark songs, they did a good job of that here. The Weiss songs had a real impact on me, not gonna lie. I think they were so well done and gave way more insight into her character! The Salem song makes me wanna see more of her so badly! And the Neon Katt song is so fun and a much needed relief! The instrumentals are also amazing, we will see about maybe doing a reaction to those down the road, even though they don't have lyrics they are so beautiful and well done and still have a great impact on the show. Blake had a love at first moment when Sun first ran past her in volume 1 whith a chior playing in the background and he had her blushing afrter his teams first victory in the tournament. So at this point I would say she is leaning towards Sun though after what she went through with her relationship with Adam I feel she isn't ready to get into another relationship jus yet.
