Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction/review of episodes 11 and 12 of V3 of RWBY!   I'm just.....I'm broken after watching these.  I'm not even sure what to say!  This is truly the "Empire Strikes Back" of this series.  So wonderfully done, but gut wrenching and tragic and it leaves all the people we love (the ones who made it) in a terrible place.  I was just starting to deal with the loss of Penny, and was not at all prepared to lose Pyrrha.  She had so much left to do you guys!!!  It's not right!!!  But boy, does it make an impact.  So now Cinder is the Fall Maiden, Ozpin is missing, Yang's arm is gone, Blake fled because...???  Weiss is back with her dad, and Ruby is a legendary silver eyed warrior.  Oh yeah, and Qrow is A LITERAL CROW!!!  That chick at the end was terrifying, I take it she's the one behind all of this!!!  Can't wait to find out more - I'm so excited to see what happens next, I'm just still grieving, you know?!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

First off big hugs! You're now through initiation. One thing I should point out is that THIS is not the Empire Strikes Back portion of the show. One thing you may not have noticed is in the opening song when they're all falling Pyrrha is the first one to fall away. Alot of people never seem to mention a certain part of Roman's monologue and that's when he says there's something he can't afford to lose. It's never actually stated but it's more that likely that what he's afraid to lose is Neo. Velvet's semblance is Photographic Reflexes, kinda like Taskmaster. He weapon creates hardlight holograms of weapons shes taken pictures of and she's able to perfectly replicate fighting styles. It's also worth noting that Roman completely had the upper hand in that fight. The grimm that swallowed him also exploded. Ive said before I love the weapon names in this series and one of my favorites is Ironwoods revolver, Due Process! All the robots shut off because the airship crashed. The shock in this episode is immense when everything goes wrong all at once, and the fake out with Blake dying made everyone angry in the best way. The other maidens are spread throughout the other kingdoms. Everyone immediately knew what was coming as soon as Pyrrha kissed Jeaun. The desperation in his voice when they were on the phone is so heart breaking. I still cry every time watching that entire last sequence at Beacon. Pyrrha got hit in the Achilles true to her inspiration. The unfortunate thing about Yang is that everything about her was taken away from her outright. She's someone who normally felt invincible and Adam beat her without effort and took her arm. She lost something she can never get back, on top of Blake leaving for reasons you'll learn later. It's only natural for Yang to feel so broken after that. 'Sometimes bad things just happen' is exactly what Qrow told her after he fight in the finals. Your reaction to Salem was absolute gold! I'm so happy you've made it to the '2nd arc' as it were. IM ALSO SO HAPPY YOU REMEMBERED ABOUT THE SILVER EYES! So many people forget those lines. Super big hugs to you this volume is difficult for everyone to make it through at the end. I can't wait for your reaction to the vol 3 ost. I know you only listen to the vocal tracks but I also highly reccomend listening to the track RWBY vs FNKI, its an awesome rendition of some of the old songs. I can't wait for you to start volume 4 cause now theres so many things I can finally share with you!

Really great reaction I loved it after all these years it still sad...to see Roman go I mean he was my favorite villain and Neo gone too they were the dynamic duo. I hope after you get caught up you check out RWBY Chibi. Ok next is the Vol.3 soundtrack (which i would suggest having some tissue on hand) and the vol 3 World of Remnants after that there is a Vol 4 short that shows off the new engine they use and to show where everyone is. The last of the Vol 4 World of Remnants are Vale, Mistral, Atlas, Vacuo, Between Kingdoms, Faunus, Schnee Dust Company, and The Great War

Penny, Roman, Phyrra... it's like they have something against redheads or something. At least Nora is okay, or as okay as anyone can be after that. Adam revealed himself as the "creepy ex" archetype. At the end of this volume I was like "Can we please have Roman back instead of this creepy guy?" Cinder talking to Kevin... It's not the first time she interacted with a grimm, remember how she got the first half of the fall maiden's power. The character at the end was at the end of the voice credits as Salem, she's the "she" that Cinder was referring to at the end of ch11. Salem looks suspiciously like a Grimm, dont you think? 😉 That last song in the credits "Cold" always makes me tear up. The lyrics can be interpreted as being about Phyrra or Monty.

You know RWBY has taken a turn when you have a comic relief villain beating up a defenseless little girl while mumbling about the futility of being a hero. Great reaction, I feel your pain. Enjoy the rest of the journey.

Also, a nice detail that I didn't see anybody mention. Salem's final monologue about a smaller more honest soul is a direct continuation of the first introductory monologue of the show, which is also part of a conversation she had with Ozpin. She's been the narrator the whole time, she's the first thing you hear in episode 1 of volume 1 and the last thing you hear in episode 12 of volume 3.

Quick word on Velvet: someone has mentioned her semblance is photographic reflexes and her weapon (the camera) lets her replicate others weapons. This combo lets her mimic anyone’s fighting style! Her inspiration is actually based on Blue Mages from the Final Fantasy game series. Blue mages are a specific magic user that has the ability to learn enemy attacks and powers and use them! Velvet has to do so by taking pictures of weapons which her camera stores and replicates using hard light dust! Think back to her “practicing her photography”....it wasn’t the best picture of a person but she had Sun’s weapon fully in frame ! Haha This is also why Coco told her in Vol 2 “Hey you’ve been working on that all semester. Don’t waste it here” and in this episode “Make them count”. Each time she uses a stored weapon copy it’s used up and she has to retake a photo to make a new copy! Very cool and Monty teased before her ability was revealed that Velvet was his favorite semblance/weapon! It’s a beautiful tribute to his creativity that he unfortunately never got to see in his show’s canon 💛

Your reactions are always so heartfelt and I feel like I’ve never seen you so torn up about character death in a series before :( at least from the reactions I’ve watched. So I have been unable to open or download your Volume 2 soundtrack reaction ever since it came out. I was hoping that eventually something would change, but now that Volume 3 is over and it still doesn't work I am at a loss. I really want to be caught up before we start Volume 4. Does anyone reading these comments have any advice as to how to get that file to open or download? Obviously other people watched it, judging by the comments.

I've never said it before (at the same time I'm a recent patreon), but I'm sending a real big virtual hug this time. It was a hard time, but it's baptism to really be part of the fandom. Just one more thing to add to what Master_Zen said, in the last moment of the opening, when our four girls are in a circle, Weiss, Yang and Blake look down and Ruby look straight ahead, it's a way of saying that while Ruby is going to go ahead and keep going, the other three are going to refocus on herself. In any case, it's very hard to hear you say things and not be able to answer them or react with elements that those who are further away know ^^ '. But just to finish, from a guy who has reviewed in recent months, almost ten times the entire series via reaction videos, I can assure you that you are not alone. Everyone suffers on this end. And if the loss remains, knowing that you are not alone, helps a little. Good luck for the future, I would always take great pleasure in seeing you react. Hug.

The end of this season is like the loss of innocence for the Rwby series, after this nothing is ever really the same. Still awesome just a different feeling in many ways. I could not believe my eyes when Pyrrha died she was an amazing character. How's this for a sad coincidence. She asked Cinder before she died "Do you believe in destiny?" And do you remember what she said to Jaune to awaken his aura in the first season? " For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all. Infinite in distance and unbound by death, I release your soul and by my shoulders protect thee." 😭

Very cool seeing her use RWBY's weapons. Lol I love learning about Monty and his creative inspirations & teases he uses on this show. As a newcomer, I'm still learning a lot about him. Seeing & hearing about him makes me love him even more, outside of this show too. His imagination is outwardly crazy and brilliant! ❤

It was hard seeing her go out that way. If she had to go out, I would have loved to see her standing up and not on her knees. But one thing I will take away from this tragic death is she went out in a very Pyrrha way. These last few eps emphasized her will to protect others. Still not thinking about herself. Which is perfect. I don't like it, but i think it's at least appropriate it ended there. And also appropriate she throw those last words out there. "Not a predetermined fate you cant escape, but rather some sort of final goal you've worked toward your entire life". It's a sad day. Another great character lost, but never forgotten now. She was marvelous. ❤ P.S. lol when the light bulb connect for you with Qrow and Raven. I needed that xD And I loved seeing her teammates focusing forward for their friend. 😥

That's such a great point that Pyrrha falls away first in the theme, would not have noticed that at all if you hadn't pointed it out, but it makes so much sense! Ironwood's revolver is pretty sweet, love the name too! Pyrrha kissing Jaune was quite a big clue for what would happen, I guess I was just hoping against hope...!! I'm so worried for Jaune!! And such a great point about Yang, everything was ripped away from her here - confidence, her arm, her team, etc. Hahaha so glad you enjoyed my reaction to Salem!!! YESSSSS SILVER EYES!!!! It doesn't happen often, but everyone once in a while I come through with my memory, woohoo!! Thanks for the hugs!!!!! Hahaha yes you're so right, what is it with the redheads on this show!! Omg yes, I couldn't agree more about Adam and Roman, Roman was clearly the more fun and less creepy to watch haha. That's so true about Cinder, she did control that little wormy Grimm didn't she?! Salem does look like a Grimm, and now we know who the "queen" and "she" is!!! Omg, that song gets me every time!!! It gets me again on the soundtrack reaction >.< Love that it's for Pyrrha but also a tribute to Monty. <3

It really was!!! But you're right, she went out protecting others without thinking of herself. Lost, but never forgotten, is the perfect way to put it!!! She was amazing and I know that her essence will echo throughout the series!!! On a lighter note, not sure how I never connected Qrow and Raven LOL!!!!!!!!!! :P And yes so true, they decided to take up this cause to honor her and I love that. Great stuff!! Thanks!

This was such an amazing reaction I'm so sorry you had to go through what all RWBY have to go through but it's so well-written. I actually think the writers having the heroes lose was so interesting because even though other shows do it you never would expect it from this show even with it getting darker. Episode 11 has some of the biggest twists in the series from what you have watched so far. The fight between Ruby, Roman and Neo is 1 of my favorite fights of the 1st 3 volumes. I just love how in sync and in control of the fight they are and she just can't win. Also while I do think he is afraid to lose Neo it's also his own life at stake because of how powerful he knows Cinder is he doesn't think anyone can beat her. I love how heavy the decision Pyrrha's choice to accept the maiden powers is and it's great how you can tell that Ozpin is reluctant to do this but has to do it. Also while Adam is creepy I love how menacing and powerful he is and this type of villainous character fits the dark tone the series is going for now. Also some people say his acting is bad but I disagree I think that speech is well written and well acted. The cuts between what's going on with Adam, Blake and Yang and in the vault are perfect and emotionally devastating. Things are not going well but are at least somewhat looking up and then boom Pyrrha starts screaming in pain, boom Blake gets stabbed, Amber dies, Yang loses her arm and Cinder gets the maiden power. It's Murphy's Law everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The fight between Ozpin and Cinder is in my opinion the best and most well animated fight in the 1st 3 volumes. It's so fluid and both of them display such power it's awesome and terrifying. I love how much these characters care about each other it just makes it feel all the more real. And now to talk about the kiss between Jaune and Pyrrha. It's really cathartic as someone who loved their relationship but so sad because you can tell what's coming. Jaune as a character has evolved so well as a character over these 3 volumes and to see him breaking down like he does is so painful to watch. Pyrrha and Cinder fighting is just pure skill versus pure power and unfortunately she was too powerful. Also seeing the creative use of the Polarity semblance was amazing. Also I was not as emotional about her death as you or others because I was already emotionally drained and devastated because of Penny's death as she was my favorite character followed closely by Yang. The silver eyes were so surprising and while I think they could have done a better job of foreshadowing them it was still very interesting. I always thought when episode 12 came out that Blake ran because of guilt. I think it's great how the volume has a very sad and somber but hopeful tone and then it becomes depressing and downright terrifying when the narrator is revealed to be Salem the big bad. Also her design is scary but awesome. The fact that it's a continuation of the conversation from the 1st episode of volume 1 is brilliant. Also it's unfortunate that you just missed Salem's name when you were looking for it in the credits but you know now so whatever. I can't wait to see your reaction to the soundtrack. Also I will be going back and posting comments on all the RWBY episodes I have not commented on yet. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

When Monty died it was so devastating. I can't even imagine how his friends and family felt but it affected not just fans of RWBY and Rooster Teeth but also people who were just fans of Monty. There were so many heartwarming stories of things people did just to show support and condolences but also all sorts of different forms of art tributes from people who were inspired by him mostly animations but some fanfiction. I myself wrote a novice one. I was upset for days after his death was announced and every story I read about him and stuff other people were doing were upsetting at 1st but eventually they helped me get through it. I'm glad you will be watching the tribute rooster teeth made about him on your own time at least.

They hinted a lot that bad things were coming, but you're right that considering the tone we all got used to it still just feels like stuff started going sideways really quickly!!! This comment will be about fun facts and anything I forgot to mention in my 1st comment. I know someone told you she was based on something else but I think Velvet is based on the Velveteen Rabbit hence her 1st name and her being a rabbit Faunus also that story is based on to some degree the scarlet fever hence her last name of Scarletina. Her flight is 1 of my favorite fights in the 1st 3 volumes and while her weapon was Monty's favorite it's probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite weapon. Also a cool detail is that at least in team RWBY's case the poses Velvet is seen in are the same as poses from the original 4 trailers. I love that Weiss finally is able to use her summons and protect Velvet. I think you noticed but what she summons is the thing she defeated in the white trailer. Also the fact that Weiss protected a Faunus after all the discriminatory ideas her father instilled upon her is a great way to show her character development. The only reason they had Jaune get stuffed into a rocket locker was to show that people could survive being in one was just for the moment it happens in episode 12. Also they released this episode on Valentine's Day sorry to make you feel worse it's a really depressing fun fact. And Pyrrha does the classic romance movie thing of 1 leg raising up during the kiss. Yang is crying when she attacks Adam to protect Blake. Pyrrha is based on Achilles so of course what starts her demise is an injury to the heel or at least around it. I almost forgot to mention but I love the reveal of Iron wood being half robotic especially because he is based on the tin man from the Wizard of Oz. This is out of order but I think the reason Roman was eaten was because of his own negative emotions. Ruby and Yang's father is voiced by then rooster teeth CEO who is basically the embodiment of a dad. It's very easy to miss but Qrow winks when she mentions Mistral to give her a hint and goal of what to do next I don't think it's ever been confirmed but that's my opinion. Salem also voices a big character in Halo called Cortana and this happened because of RT's work with Microsoft because their 1st series is based on Halo a Microsoft property. Finally this must have been mentioned in comments before but in addition to Jeff and Casey Lee Williams working on the music you need to give proper credit to Alex Abraham who mostly works on the instrumental music which was amazing in this volume and the others. Also can you guess who or what Salem is based on I don't know if it's that obvious or not and I don't want to ruin you finding out on your own. If you are really stumped someone will probably tell you. I hope you enjoyed this fun fact comment. :-) <3
