Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 15 of Vinland Saga!  We got some fun cooking and meal sharing in this one, yay!  But well, I'm not loving the Danish king so far, based on what we know of how he treated poor Canute, WHO WAS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A NICE MEAL FOR HIS DAD, and also that whole "he kills his kids" thing.  Protect Canute!!!!!  Speaking of which, Askeladd, what in the world?!?!  Poor Ragnar, and to think that in his final moments, he was only worried about whether or not the prince would have a good mentor.  I knew Askeladd was concerned about what kind of king he'd be, but dang....!!!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

The king didn't kill Harald, Harald is still alive and is favored to become king. He planned for Canute to die, that's why he sent him into such a dangerous predicament. Hope that clears that up. There is a lot to be said about assimilation in this episode. The obvious thing to talk about is that countries get swallowed whole and then sometimes break apart and that process changes things. You can also talk about religious belief. Yule is a very old winter time celebration which has been incorporated into what we know as Christmas. Many of the traditions associated with Christian holidays are originally pagan, this was done to make the newer faith more palatable to converts. You see this at the very end when Ragnar grabs his sword before dying. Even though he is a Christian, a little part of him still believes in Valhalla and the old ways.

Did we even saw Harald ? is he dead ? :D i dont think so ?? or i miss that.. i watched this episode with you cause i wasnt home through weekend and i had a pretty wierd dream with Vinland Saga :D so i had a break.. oh my.. next episode is.. oof :D be ready :)

I am so sorry! I read that his dad brought him into battle to be killed and I must have misunderstood. Please disregard anything I said about that in this one or if I mention it in the next one. Thanks for clearing it up! That's a great point about assimilation and the way it affects countries. I had heard that many parts of Christmas were of pagan origin, seeing the struggle between religions here, it makes sense that they'd try to do that to make it a bit more enticing for those just now adopting the faith! I didn't even realize that's what Ragnar was doing when he reached for his sword, but that really does say something!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the info :D
