Hey everyone! Here's my reaction/review of episodes 1 and 2 of V2 of RWBY! OH MY GOSH, can we talk about that food fight?! It was only the most epic thing EVER!!! That poor bookstore owner though! >.< As sad as I am that our kids have to start growing up so quickly, I'm glad in a way that they're getting prepped for the massive events that I have a feeling are coming. What an epic start to volume 2! I can't wait for more! This show is amazing! Enjoy! ~ MH

So the food fight actually came about as a result of the writers wanting a way for our 2 main teams RWBY and JNPR to have a head to head with serious combat but low stakes. The actual reason they can fight like that is because they are using their aura's to enhance the durability of the food while fighting. The scene during the fight where Ruby screams Weiss no! was in the original teaser trailer but all the food assets were removed so a lot of people thought Weiss was going to die in Vol. 2 luckily that theory was put to rest in the first episode. There were a few Rooster teeth inside jokes in the first episode from some of their other works, the people like grapes soda, the puma reference and the X-ray and Vav comic is a joke from one of their let's play channels personalities.

I'm so glad I signed up for Patreon. This one is so worth it. Even if the video is late. Also, the Grape Soda is called "People Like Grapes". It's a reference to Scarlet's Voice Actor, Gavin Free. He says a lot of smart/dumb stuff on Rooster Teeth's Podcast, and one of his infamous quotes is, "People like grapes." Scarlet can be seen in the Volume 2 intro, but he doesn't actually appear in the show until Volume 3.

Awesome reaction also they add different fan art at the end of each episode

That moment when you realize that a food fight is better choreographed and animated than some fights in other things with a much higher budget. Animation keeps getting better volume by volume, we have background characters now... No more shadow people!! 😆 Between his lines and his attitude, Roman stole that scene in the warehouse (also, poor Tuckson). The lines (Mercury:"I think it was some sort of cat actually" Emerald:"What, like a puma?") are a nod to Red versus Blue another Rooster Teeth show.

That food fight was phenomenal! Why can’t I have friends like them? I wanna be a part of the two group, there’d be so much fun and chaos 🤩

kamenriderhime

Ohhhh that's absolutely genius!!! And really interesting about using their auras to "strengthen" the food. Oh man, I would have gone nuts if I'd seen that trailer!!! What a way to tease the audience haha. That's so funny about the inside jokes!!! They're even funnier now that I know their origins! Thanks!

kamenriderhime

Hi Ian, thank you so much, I'm happy to have you aboard!! ^_^ Thanks for explaining "People Like Grapes", that definitely makes it even funnier and more special haha. Hmmm! Interesting about Scarlet too!

kamenriderhime

Hahahaha right?!?! XD No more shadow people, yay!!! Someone told me they saw a preview for Vol. 8 and that you wouldn't even know it was the same show, the animation has improved so much. I think it looks good right now but I'm excited to see how much better it gets along the way! Roman totally stole the scene - really enjoying his actor! And that's fun about the nod to Red vs. Blue! Love the inside jokes along the way too haha. Thanks for all the info!

Right?! And omg right?!?! That's what I was thinking too! Getting in a friend group where you are close/comfortable enough to have an epic food fight = goals XD

In episode 1 of volume 2, Emerald (the girl with green hair) calls the fire girl Cinder. You think she’s the Queen who has pawns that Qrow mentioned? Apologies, that’s a spoiler. You’ll find out sometime during volume 3. Weiss is still glorious. I totally get her in terms of having no clue what’s going on during board games lol. Nora’s makeshift hammer with a watermelon... did I ever mention to you that watermelons are my favorite fruit? Also, is Ozpin drinking coffee or hot chocolate? I can never tell and they never tell us. Can’t wait for the next one, as we see more Weiss and them formulating a plan. Going to eat lunch now. Cya Mei! P.S: Tomorrow’s my birthday.

kamenriderhime

Ohhh I can't wait to know more about the "queen"!! Haha, board games can be really overly complicated for sure!! The watermelon hammer....!!! Oh no I actually didn't know that, good choice though, watermelon is really yummy!! I had never thought about what Ozpin is drinking but that's a good point....could be chocolate, coffee, tea.....!!!! Guess it will remain a mystery haha. Hope you enjoy my next reaction! And that you had a great lunch! Oh yes, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you enjoy your day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

I'm glad that you loved the food fight! Monty Oum was asked to small action scene revolving around a food fight to bring some levity to what is an otherwise very serious episode. So the idea was started as a simple joke. He mentioned in an interview that he thought quite a lot about how to do that before deciding that he'd treat the fight with the same seriousness that went into animating all of his other fight scenes but inserting the over-the-top ridiculousness of remembering that this was just a food fight. The end result was the glorious action sequence you saw in this episode. We also get our second mention of Qrow, Ruby's uncle that taught her how to fight with Crescent Rose. I know where you're up to and I can't wait to see how you react to his actual debut in the series. XD

kamenriderhime

I loved it! And it totally shows that it was given the same weight in terms of animation as a regular, serious fight scene. It was epic!! Ahhh yes, Qrow!!! <3 I hope you love my reaction when we get there!!! Thanks!
