Hey everyone! Here's my reaction and review of season 3, episode 8. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT WAS AFTER THIS EP THAT YOU GUYS EXPLAINED THE WHOLE EREN/DAD/MEAL THING....SO PLEASE DISREGARD ANYTHING I SAY TO THE CONTRARY HERE! Sorry!! >.<
Wow, I can't believe Eren can harden now! I would have thought the "armor" would give him armor like Reiner's, but instead, it made him crystallize like Annie! I almost died at Sasha's comments to Eren afterwards!!! Also, have I mentioned how much I'm loving Historia?!
She is SO strong! I love that they were able to come up with another way of handling this that wasn't Eren getting eaten...and Historia taking responsibility to be queen was just another show of her strength! Can't wait to see what happens next! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Historia in this episode is another example that female characters in attack on titan are just well written. The confused guy at the end that asked about the evacuation was hilarious with his "Nani !?". Though not as funny as Sasha's rant ofcourse.

Adam Stinnett

If i recall, the bottle of spinal fluid was more visible in the manga and had kanji roughly translated to "strongest titan" That's why Rod is like that or that is the assumption rather.

kamenriderhime

Exactly!!!!!!!!! Hahaha that guy was pretty funny! And Sasha's epic rant! Don't know if I could love Sasha more if I tried <3

After last episode and the next several Historia ended up at number 1 on the top anime character list in Japan for several weeks.

Okay, so you said it in last episode too, so I am going to put this here : Kenny didn't say he wanted to be The king (as in the ruler of this kingdom if this is what you understood), he talked about the possibility of becoming A true king. A little difference that might be important. About the turkey titan, as it has been unofficially named, a theory is that he didn't transform via the "normal" way. Instead of an intramuscular (I guess) injection, he licked the serum on the ground. And remember that Kenny sticked his blade in his mouth. So the serum got in is bloodstream in quite an unusual way. But as I said, it is just a theory. We have here another possibility about the motive of Grisha. Yeaaaah, maybe he is not a murderous bastard ! And of course, Historia really taking (or keeping) the spot here, her development is really good ! All the interactions with Eren were great too, showing the bond in this new Levi squad. Great reaction ! Thanks !

kamenriderhime

Ahh yes that is an important distinction! Thanks for clearing it up! Turkey Titan, omg!!!!!!!! I love it!!!!! Right, that makes sense that ingesting the serum the way he did, by licking it off the ground and getting it into an open wound, could explain why it was so malformed!! Hahah yes, some redemption for Grisha!!!!!! I love the character stuff they did with Eren here, as well as all the awesome stuff they keep doing with Historia. I'm so happy you liked my reaction!!! Thank YOU! :D

The theory of ingesting the serum goes in tandem with Historia breaking her father's back. I mean, who knows if it was broken, but it did crack, he did get hurt, and then ingested the spinal fluid through his open wounds. Another theory says that Rod knew he would turn into a deformed Titan that's why he didn't want to turn, but I think he just wanted to be a puppet master behind the scenes, like he said, to bring "God" into this world and offer his prayers. Who would have thought Historia and Ymir would have turned out to be such awesome, strong characters after remaining in the sidelines for much of the beginning of the show?

Jaeger

From what I understand, it’s not that Rod couldn’t turn into a titan; he just didn’t want to (for reasons that have yet to be revealed). Also, to give my opinion on the fake king thing, I’m pretty sure the Reiss family gave it up willingly. I imagine being the king or queen draws a lot of attention to you, and when you want to conceal a super secret Titan power, that attention could be a problem. Plus, even though the Reiss’s weren’t sitting on the throne, they still retained a lot of political power since Rod was one of the the nobles who would be in the throne room making political decisions with the other nobles. So, in my opinion, giving the throne to a fake king was the Reiss family’s way of ruling from the shadows while continuing their whole Founding Titan thing in secret.

Matthew B

In the manga, Historia hesitates a lot more than she did in the anime about becoming queen. Levi gets frustrated with her and roughs her up a little (nothing serious). That is why Mikasa said "when youre queen you can punch that runt in the face"

Adam Stinnett

No this is not a spoiler because i don't think it's been stated in the manga or elsewhere, but it's an assumption. It's thought that all shifters can harden with training so Eren may have been able to do it on his own without using the armor bottle. .To my knowledge it is never stated if you NEED that bottle of if it's just something you learn, like when Eren was moving the boulder he wasn't in control, or when he couldn't transform. There seems to be a learning curve to mastering the power of the titans so theoretically Eren may have been able to harden without that bottle. The manga is nearing it's conclusion and there are still quite a few unanswered questions.

Rory Borcherding

Ya, this is exactly what it is. The anime makes it kind of confusing, but the manga literally says that Rod Reiss rules from the shadows while the fake king sits on the throne.

Rory Borcherding

The whole thing about the first king's effects on a royal blood holder of the Founding Titan is up for interpretation. The subs say "controlled by the first kings will" and that's kind of how they refer to it in the manga at this point, but I interpret it more like, after they get the memories of the founding titan and see the history then something about that convinces them to keep things as they are. That's just my thoughts though.

kamenriderhime

Ahhh that makes sense! I could also see the theory about him knowing he'd be deformed being the reason he didn't want to become a Titan. Omg right?!?! I would have never guessed the girls we saw a handful of times in the background would be so amazing and so at the forefront of the story!!!!!!!! A welcomed surprise, for sure!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Ohhhhhhhhhh okay!!! I was wondering why all of a sudden she and Mikasa were mad at Levi lol, I'm like, did something happen off screen?? I guess it did haha. Thanks!

kamenriderhime

Ahhhh okay! That makes sense, considering the other Titans we've seen have for the most part had lots of training and/or have had this ability in the family for generations. Thanks for the info!

kamenriderhime

Ohhhh okay! So less of a mind control in the direct sense, and more like they all have an understanding of why Titans should be kept around once they have that knowledge/those memories. Thanks!

Derrick C. Shields

That's always how I interpreted it as well. Like the truth is so impactful that it convinces you "nah, fighting isn't a good idea." It's almost a Lovecraftian kind of concept.

kamenriderhime

Right!! That makes sense; and it's a bit more layered than just simple mind control. Thanks!

Ahmed Alnajar

just a heads up. don't watch the next opening until the last 2 episodes. Idk where u r at or if someone warned u about this before but the next opening song contains all the events of the second half of episodes. and hints about major events.

kamenriderhime

Thank you so much!! Fortunately I've been warned and I don't plan on watching the next opening (starting with ep 13, I believe?) until it's safe to, due to all the spoilers!!!!!!! :D
