Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the second episode of Death Parade! OH DANG!!! So she was having an affair?! Shoot! I actually never guessed there might be a third option that was somewhere in between. Good thing our new human friend was able to give some insight. Speaking of which, what's her deal? We got SO much more info on how everything works in this one! It really is "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game"...!!! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

You know, you’re staring through the screen with the “how dare you put me through this” face at the start. You know, EXACTLY, who it is that got you into this. (PS: I will not apologize for Oshi No Ko either. 😉) Yes, the Heaven/Hell dichotomy was mentioned in the prologue. New Character VAs: Nona: MEM-Cho (Oshi No Ko), Souka (Slime) Clavis (elevator guy): Shigaraki (MHA), Tsukishima (Haikyuu!), Himekawa (Oshi No Ko), Meruem (Hunter x Hunter), Toge (JJK), Youma (Rohan) According to the database the character we see at first does have a name, but since the show hasn’t revealed it at this point, I’ll just call her “assistant.” You’re assuming again. You immediately went to “oh, this person is in this place, ergo they must be dead.” But if she had the concept of what was happening, wouldn’t that indicate the opposite based on the “shock of dying?” Decim’s name is literally in the name of the bar, he just never introduced himself. The philosophical nature of this is now we’re looking at it from the arbiter point of view - detached, emotionless, collecting data. The sticking up point comes in the form of the assistant raising the same argument you initially were. Decim has shown in two episodes and a prologue so far that he, not being alive, has trouble dealing with the concept of emotion. So is it really fair to make him judge severely emotional circumstances? That’s something to chew on. I think there might have been two things eating away at Machiko: the first being she did spend time with someone else. The second one, which was probably a much bigger weight, was the gear that she wasn’t carrying Takashi’s child. So perhaps part of what she did when she turned on her husband was not just an attempt to save him, but also, she felt she wasn’t deserving. Here’s the big problem: humans aren’t perfect, they’re all flawed and they’ve all erred. What errors do you judge and which do you overlook? What is the intent and the emotion behind someone’s actions? This job certainly isn’t going to be easy. Nona also reprimanded Decim fairly harshly after the assistant shared her thoughts. This isn’t a job where you can be wrong, but I get the feeling second guessing yourself after the fact will not be tolerated either. So in a way there’s just as much tension on the arbiters as the guests. Oh yeah, the mannequin thing is kinda creepy. But it IS Halloween. So this is a perfect time for it. 🎃 While we’re on the subject of today, it’s the date of the Shibuya incident - but Japan said they can’t have a Halloween celebration there this year. I guess they all saw Season 2 of JJK as well. 👀 Anyway, the vibe I’m getting off this show is - ask yourself two questions: what does the show look like it’s saying, and then, what is it NOT telling you?

Dang now I want to go back and rewatch the prologue. Now I could be wrong but I think you got it right: she had an affair but did love him and was saving face by the end of the first episode. Yet also taking into account that the husband also had his own fault within the relationship since he was distrusting to begin with. For better or for worse, I guess. It’s a very layered head scratcher. Thinking about death always is I guess. Now before this I thought Decim was in charge of this whole operation. Like head honcho or close to it but that Nona seems to have some sort of jurisdiction over him. I’m guess that end credit scene is her domain so maybe there’s someone even above her. Hm. 🤔 I wouldn’t say Decim made a fault decision but just didn’t take something into consideration, or rather he’s lacking a quality that takes something like the impulsive humanity approach into consideration when deciding the outcome. And this makes me question Decim a lot about his placement in this huge elaborate thing. 25:02-25:45 I can’t tell if this is Nona saying to Decim “Don’t overthink it. The outcome is what it is” or if it’s a total reprimanding moment like “be more careful next time” because she just moves on like “okay next stop!” And Decims hand moving you can see he is bothered by this which also reminds me of that guy he gave in the prologue to the young man who was freaking out. I’m not sure if he’s totally void of sentimental feelings or if he has total trouble with but he feels for them at the end of the day. Really interesting stuff in this one!

Yeah I think that pretty much sums it up, glad you agree! For real, this was SO much more complicated than I though! Nona def seems to outrank Decim! I have a feeling this is a whole tiered organization...! Yeah he missed something, it doesn't exactly equate to a mistake I guess. Yeah I wasn't sure about that scene with Nona either! Yeah it doesn't seem like Decim is totally void of feelings, you're right! He's just stoic. This was a head scratcher for sure!!

Good to know about the VAs! I think the name of the bar is Queendecim, his name is in it but it's not his exact name. I get the feeling that's why they brought the assistant in - probably among other reasons - to help Decim sort out human emotions. I kinda got the impression that the child was his, but she was guilty over the affair, but they never really say? This is one tough job alright, you can't afford to be wrong but how on earth do you get it right! Oh happy anniversary of the Shibuya incident lol. Yeah there's a lot you need to ask yourself about what they don't say in each ep huh!
