Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the first episode of Death Parade! WOW was this a tense one!!! Honestly I really finished this one thinking that the woman was totally innocent and had put on the whole act for her husband's benefit, then wanted to be sent to the bad place like the older man in the prologue. But dang if this wasn't sad, frustrating, and heartbreaking to watch all at once!! What a way to kick off the series lol! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

The unfortunate thing about this comment is I’ve already seen Episode 2. So… you probably know by the time you read this. VAs: Takashi - Laplace from Slime Machiko: Erina Pendleton from JoJo Part 1, Winter Schnee from RWBY: Ice Queendom, Beretta from Slime So first thing: I don’t think it matters which elevator you come in on. They’re like floor lights, they can easily be changed. Second: the outcome of one’s soul is not dependent on the game’s outcome but rather - the outcome produced by the game. I think what the show is telling you specifically is that you should not take anything at face value. The husband looks like the guilty and jealous one throughout most of this episode, just like the younger person did in the prologue. The game is more of a social experiment it appears, because people’s actions and emotions will change based on what they think is at stake. I don’t think the first hits were intentional, it’s almost like they got their memories back after the darts were released and they just happened to hit high value targets. One has to wonder if that was intentional or orchestrated somewhere else. It seems the husband panicked when they were down to a couple darts: what if I lose? And then his basic fear took over. Machiko however, confirmed his worst fears when she admitted the child wasn’t his and she only wanted him for his money. “Who would ever fall in love with YOU?” This obviously, makes the decision a lot more clear cut as he was jealous because he wanted her to love him, and it appears from this exchange the whole thing was just an act. I don’t know if I buy the whole, someone’s getting Squid Game entertainment theory from this, there doesn’t appear to be any spectators involved at this time. I think they’re also leaving the child as just a kind of plot device, due to how much of a debate/controversy it would create otherwise. Draw your own conclusion, in other words. As for the post credit discussion, that can wait for the next episode, as I have added context I’d prefer not to share here for those who haven’t seen it yet. The biggest takeaway so far? Nothing is what it seems. 🤔

Manny

True character coming out in the face of fear makes sense for the purpose of these twisted situations. 😨

Manny

Yeah I can’t quite tell if she was trying to save face with him or not. Man what an outcome for a starting loving (?) couple. Seeing your spouse in a totally opposite state would make you want to save that image of them that you’re familiar with. I’m positive she understands the situation is putting an uneasy amount of stress on him (the man that just wanted a family). For her as well but seeing as he always wanted a family and now is in front of her, a totally distraught mess, would be a good motive to say what she did at the end. Or maybe it’s true about having an affair but my mind is going with the former.

So cool on the VAs!! Good to know about the elevators, and the fact about the score is revealed over time, which I think is cool. It's not something we know right away especially after the prologue. It really is like a social experiment! The farther I get the more I see that I don't think it's meant for entertainment, but one has to theorize I guess lol. Manny, you said it - it seems like that's exactly the point!!!!!!!!

OMG I know, what a twist! That's how I felt too, I think that was jarring for her and she was willing to do/say anything. What a mess!!! I was right there with you on the affair theory at the end of this ep!!!
