Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to MHA season 7, episode 17!!! WOW you guys, they just keep the momentum going in this one don't they?! I think my soul left my body at that moment with Hawks, but WOW did the Shiketsu students come through!!! I love that they're pulling out every single person we've met along the way now haha! Also, what on earth with Toga at the end?! Is she maybe coming from a bad place, and that's why she can't become her friend?! That's the only thing I can think of!!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Toga is probably confused, because she can only use the quirks of people she likes, so she can use Twices quirk as we can see but she can't use it to its fullest extent like we saw Twice himself use it, i.e to create copies of people, and those copies can use their quirks so if Toga could use the Twices power like him she could've created copies of Shigaraki and those copies could've just used Decay to win. So she is probably messed up about it since even though she can become Twice and use his quirk, because what does it mean for her. Did she not actually care about Twice that much, does she not actually want to kill the heroes, etc. There probably lots of confused, angry and sad thoughts rattling around in there.

Hi Hime :) The emojis I used for this episode were: 🐦‍⬛😱 This is of course for the part where Hawks "dies" and poor Tokoyami is reduced to a meme reaction lol. If this frame is never used as a meme or reaction, I don't understand the internet anymore. But yes, all this passage about darkness and Shiketsu coming to the rescue with more courage and determination than AfO expected, him, talking about his golden age, almost clinging to it, I want to say that he is the definition of "it was better before". The old man who wants to go back to a time that he considers better for him, but which is not for the future generation, who here are fighting to protect the future they want to see. It's not difficult to relate this to our reality, where hundreds of people talk about a time they consider "better" than now, because they have not been able to adapt to this new time and therefore spit on the future of this new generation... Especially when most of the time it is an idealized image of that past that they remember. But hey, let's avoid politics ^^'. For the rest, let's talk about love. In two episodes, Gentle and La Brava have again demonstrated that love is beautiful and strong, when Gentle prevented the escape of hundreds of prisoners, he asked for La Brava's release, and in this episode, La Brava used the available cameras to highlight her man. These two are adorable together and deserve to be happy. As for the other great lover, Toga, here we actually talk about her internal conflict and her lack of understanding about herself, she remains a teenager still in the midst of discovering herself. She wonders why she couldn't make a good clone of Dabi or Shigaraki, while she is able to use Jin's quirk. Is it because of what she feels for them, different from Jin and Ochaco? Or because what she feels for Jin is different from what she feels for Ochaco? Is it that if she loved Jin more, she would be able to become Jin as she says, and therefore use this power much better. This will be developed even more later, I think (but it was a while ago, I don't remember everything that was said), so what I'm going to say is just my interpretation. For me, Toga feels a strong affection for Jin and Ochaco, a sincere love, but that does not come from the same place or at least, with different goals. She said that when she loved someone, she wanted to become that person, but as they met, the relationship between Ochaco and her evolved, to the point where she wanted to discuss love stories, she no longer saw Ochaco as a person she wanted to become, but as an equal, a person with whom to share good times. For Jin, there is revenge, resentment and regret in this love, she really seeks to become Jin and thereby forget herself, forget her pain, this love, like surely her old crushes comes from the fact that she seeks through these relationships, to appease her own suffering by erasing herself. It's not that she wouldn't have liked to have a good time with Jin, but the fact that she can't anymore makes her sink into this spiral. Toga and her way of loving remains fascinating to analyze for me, because we can see that she is looking for sincerity, someone who understands and accepts her, but since it has been denied to her for so long, her own vision of love is disfigured, wanting to become the person she loves to erase herself and soothe her suffering, except that she didn't realize it, to the point that her relationship with Ochaco, shedding new light on this concept, makes Toga's vision evolve without her understanding it herself. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe I'm right, but this is my way of seeing Toga's character and why I like this character and her relationship with Ochaco, who also, through her relationship with Izuku, has greatly evolved and understood who she was, but also thanks to Toga. I think that in Ochaco's life, apart from her parents, Izuku and Toga have surely shaped the woman she will become more than anyone.

Only four more episodes after this, we're getting a short 21 ep season , probably so they can stretch seast8 into a full one cour. Otherwise, there was a risk of too little manga content remaining.

Gentle and Nagant got added to the intro, if you pay attention

Four episodes after this one, which basically qualifies as early to mid October. “They aren’t going to get me to cry this early.” You already know this isn’t a fight you can win. Give up already. (Not meant to emulate AFO.) 😅 Something occurred to me early on - what is the difference between what happened to the villains who turned back, and those who are antagonists? It’s one difference - who actually reached out to them. Midoriya played on their hopes, whereas AFO is playing on their fears. It seems Shigaraki is being used, but he wasn’t stupid and hid enough of his original persona away to protect himself. But he still blames everything for that house, so (sorry about the cheesy shopping line here), but “everything must go!” I also was listening to Nagant’a VA just to see exactly what sound she was using more of, and came to the conclusion it’s somewhere between Frieren and Emporio. No Anya though. XD “It’d be a major downer if a hottie like (Hawks) died!” Well, first off, she isn’t wrong, second, that’s extremely mean, and third, the shocked Chibi Tokoyami needs to be your YouTube thumbnail this week. Just as AFO is making everyone their enemy, Midoriya is gathering allies just by being himself. Gentle is concerned for the business students, but they’re more concerned that they only ever showed heroes getting praise and not what they actually went through (Endeavor in particular) and they’re determined to show everyone what the true value of a hero is. La Brava is just out here simping for Gentle, but she’s more than happy to help boost that image. Tsu/Froppy noticed the weird thing about Toga first (maybe she’s channeling her Maomao character and playing detective?) but what occurred to me is you should listen to the sound quality of Toga’s voice in that scene. Her inner thoughts are sounding one way, and that one voice keeps saying “I’ll annihilate the heroes” is distant and echoing, like in a long tunnel. Perhaps there’s a part of her that doesn’t really want this, and she’s at war with herself, that’s why she can’t use 100% of Jim’s ability? It wouldn’t be the first time in this series Ochaco’s words had a massive effect, just ask Izuku. That’s probably enough here, but is four episodes enough time to bring this full circle? By the way, we ever getting back to Bakugo? 👀

kamenriderhime

Thanks for the info! LOL!!! I mean, this is one case where giving up probably is the answer :P OOOHHH that's actually so true though, there are groups of "villains" who gave into fear, and then those that embraced hope. It's interesting that Shigaraki was playing the long game here and hid some of himself away. Omg, Nagant's VA! What a resume! HAHAHAHA that's total thumbnail material right?! It's amazing how opposite yet parallel things are between AFO and Izuku right now. I love that Gentle was really concerned but recognized the determination and devotion of the business students. Meanwhile LaBrava is out here just trying to blow him up on social media LOL!! Haha yeah Froppy must be channeling Maomao right now! That's the thing, I think her heart/soul/feelings are not in the right alignment and this is how it's manifesting. I can't wait to see how they wrap this up in 4 eps!!! OMG for real, how even is Bakugo right now?!!?!?

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) Hahaha you nailed it with those emojis!!! OMG for real, that frame of Tokoyami was MADE to be a meme or the whole internet is doing it wrong!!! OOF, that actually is so true about AFO's stance and how it represents a lot of situations in real life...!! I loved LaBrava's simping here lol, their story really is so sweet!! Oooh that's an interesting point about the type of love that Toga feels for them. It's so true that her feelings, love, etc. have really evolved over the time we've known her. I really like your theory/interpretation!!!

kamenriderhime

That's kinda what I'm thinking too! That's such a good point about what would happen if she used Decay too. I can definitely see how she'd get confused about her feelings/motivations. I can't wait to see more about this!

Cody

Nagant immediately becoming the mvp by getting rid of Shigaraki’s hands! I don’t how long it’ll take for him to regenerate them but at least for a second he can’t use Decay. That fake out with Hawks was so mean, but man the Shiketsu crew showing up was so hype! I never thought about how the hairy guy (Shishikura?) and Inasa would be perfect for dealing with the army of Twice. Hawks with basically Kaiju Dark Shadow was so freaking hype! I did not expect to hear Moonlight Sonata in this show that caught me so off guard lol. And man, Toga having this crisis may be the deciding factor on this front!

kamenriderhime

OMG for real!! She bought us some time at the very least! OMG the fakeout was so cruel after all we've been through, but such a fun build up for the Shiketsu crew! That's true, there are so many side characters/quirks that I've never thought twice about in this situation (no pun intended lol), but I'm glad they're bringing them in now! OMG hearing Moonlight Sonata just elevated this to a whole new level of peak haha. It's crazy to think this might come down to Toga!!!!
