Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to season 2, episode 22 of Vinland Saga!  Oh WOW you guys!!  Thorfinn is a straight up BOSS!!!!  Even the guy beating him was so tired out at the end lol and was just in awe of him!!!  Dang I'm proud of him, and Thors would be too!!  Canute...we finally get to hear his honest thoughts on how he plans to rule.  Even Thorfinn could see he has some great ambition to want to "save" so many people....but um....he seems like he's put together quite the plan on how to do it.  Power that rivals that of God's doesn't sound like it's gonna turn out too great for him, I've gotta be honest!  That being said, it is interesting that in so many ways, he and Thorfinn want the same thing.  What do we do now?  Guess we'll find out!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

My respect for Thorfinn in this episode has risen to level 1000. He 100% deserved the applause you gave for him in this episode. It was really hard for me to watch him suffer 100 blows too. I don't even want to imagine the pain he had to feel. Having read the manga, I know they toned that scene down a bit because Thorfinn's injuries looked a lot worse in the manga. It really did look like a thousand bees stung his face at once. But it also makes him look a bit more unserious, so I understand why they toned it down a bit in the anime. The moment that all Vinland Saga fans have been looking forward to was finally brought to life in this episode. Because the scene with Thorfinn where he says, I have no enemies, is really one of the most famous lines from this masterpiece. And it was done so well. The background music and the animation were a great fit and really gave me goosebumps. The first conversation between Thorfinn and Canute in four years was really exciting. I think this conversation really gave us an insight into Canut´s thoughts about what he really wants to achieve with his Utopia. During the part with the waves, I also thought for a moment that Canute was losing his mind. But then I realized what he really wanted to achieve with it and found it very remarkable. With Thorfinn, I would never have thought that Knut actually wants to fight against God and his creation with his torpe and wants to be the savior of the Vikings, so to speak. I understand his point of view, but as you said, he just doesn't see the big picture. He's just a king and is advised by a lot of people who have only been to war or are only from the nobility and have never really experienced poor life. And Einar, who has lost everything because of kings, has a completely different view of such things. Thorfinn and Canute are just two such wonderfully written characters who have such different views on the same things, yet complement each other so well. In the meantime, Canute also gave me Dio and Giorno vibes, just where he made a very serious face and revealed his thoughts to Thorfinn. The next episode will now show whether Thorfinn's pacifism turns out to be the right path.

Mine too!! I'm so happy you agreed lol! It was so hard to watch but what a point he made. Wow, it's crazy to think it looked even worse in the manga! Makes sense they toned down the swelling though. Wow, I can see why it's such a famous moment!!!!! It's goosebump-worthy for sure!!! The discussion was so good, I definitely had chills! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who took Canute seriously at first about the waves lol. The fact that he wants to save the Vikings is pretty surprising. But yeah, he doesn't have all the info to work with unfortunately. It's a good thing that he's meeting people like Einar, since he's probably been so removed from the effects of decisions made by royalty up to this point. I agree that these characters are just so well done! I'm glad you got Dio/Giorno vibes too lol. The whole scene was just tremendously well done. I can't wait to see more!!!!

I love this episode a lot I think it’s my second or third episode but my favorite episode fluctuates in this show so it can easily be number one. I love how Wulf being as skilled as he is easily realizes what Thorfinn is doing using his own skills to avoid major injuries with subtle movements. And because no one else is noticing what is happening they can’t/aren’t trying to find a way to actually hurt him. It must be so hard for Einar but I respect the amount of willpower it takes for him to be able to do that. I love his internal thoughts about Thorfinn & the lengths he is willing to go to for the sake of peace & his own beliefs. I love this entire situation fully encapsulates Thorfinn’s almost insane amount of willpower, his character development as well as what might be the purest essence of complete pacifism of never fighting back no matter the situation always taking hits to protect others. And it does feel like there are purposeful allusions to Jesus with this. I love how Snake shows his care for Thorfinn when he sees what is going on even if it unfortunately resulted in Thorfinn taking a bad hit its interesting how his real feelings come out mostly in very serious situations like this. It’s not a bad thing at all but I think Snake chose a perfect word for Thorfinn with softhearted because of the great amount of kindness he has for not only his friends but people who he doesn’t even know. I think Thorfinn has an amazing response to Snake saying if talking could solve this it would have by talking about how talking/diplomacy was never even attempted. And I love the point about how much effort peace takes because it’s so true a lot more than war/violence. It’s great to see how much respect Einar has for Thoifinn’s resolve here not stopping him. I know there are ways to make minor injuries look major/avoid taking major damage like in wrestling & different forms of martial arts but probably not in as much of an insane way as Thorfinn is here although I have heard there was a lot of dangerous stuff going and on when wrestling was much less regulated when it came to safety. I love how you can hear the genuine anger in Thorfinn’s voice when he basically tells Drott to bring it & says his strength doesn’t hurt and insults his hair because even though he believes in peace & isn’t an angry person it doesn’t mean he can’t be mad at the state of the world. I love how all of these soldiers shut up after he says these things recognizing the strength it takes to be able to take hits like this and get back up & that is something traditional warriors can respect. I think it’s amazing that Thorfinn literally exhausted this really strong man by doing almost nothing. I love that Drott calls him a true warrior when we know how important that term is in this show. I love how Thorfinn says violence is stupid if he is trying to create peace because him saying these things to Wulf that are so blunt is just so Thorfinn LOL. And then we get one of the greatest full circle moments I have seen in a show I watched with Thorfinn saying he has no enemies while thinking of his father Thors. And I love how even with all his injuries the one eye we can see is the clearest we have ever seen it. I like that Wulf finds ironic humor in what he says because being the head of the guard he knows better than anyone that Canute has somewhat similar thoughts about war. I love how this moment is treated with the gravity it deserves with the voice acting & music as Wulf clears the way to let him see the king. I love how he asks Einar to come with him because he is his best friend & has his own reasons to talk to the King. I love this entire conversation between these two & Canute it’s incredible. I love the back-and-forth because we have Cannute talking about violence, power & what he needs for his utopia while having remorse for what happened between him & Thorfinn & not wanting to do any of this. While Thorfinn is only talking about peace and Einar is pointing out the king’s own hypocrisy. I love the moment of Canute “trying to stop the ocean waves” because it’s supposed to make you think the power has gone to his head & he is crazy only to subvert that with this being Canute’s grandiose way of saying if someone as strong as me can’t challenge God how can I change the world without more power. I think there is something really powerful about the king wanting to save people who should be irredeemable considering the philosophical themes this show explores as well as Canute’s thoughts about God & religion. I love how even faced with what the king is saying that seems to go against what he believes he looks at it & is able to see the good intentions in the King’s ideas because Thorfinn can see similarities to his own ideas even with how different those ideas are. Yeah Thorfinn & Einar have balls to challenge the king like this. And then we get to one of the big questions of this season what if peace doesn’t work & violence seems like the only option what will Thorfinn do? I love how you talked about how it’s not that he doesn’t care or is evil but truly believes this will lead to a better world. And it’s a very good point that he has had no one to convince him of a different way or change his mind. I don’t know if I ever thought about the looks of Thorfinn & Canute’s looks switching that you pointed out interesting thought. It’s been great all season but this was the VA for Thorfinn Yuto Uemaru’s best work. I agree with the comments this episode has some of best voice acting, music & animation this season. Constant chills this season for me which is awesome. Finally next time you will get to see the conclusion of this amazing season it’s great. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-)

So well said! Peace is so much harder. And the no enemies line was just magnificent!!! Canute and Thorfinn's conversation was so good. I love Einar getting in on it too, and pointing out the reality to Canute. The VA is totally killing it here as well! It does make you wonder, where do they go from here? Constant chills is a great way to put it!!! Thanks so much for being so kind, patient and awesome as always!!!
