Hey everyone!

Saw a few too many "I'm not going to celebrate Independence Day when our country is so terrible because blah blah..." posts, so I thought I'd post something in protest.

I get it, but at the same time, I don't judge an entire country based on the decisions of a few out of touch old men who should have retired decades ago. And if we only consider the darker implications of holidays we'd have little to celebrate.

So I choose to post pictures of girls in bikinis while lighting off illegal Mexican fireworks, eating tacos, and drinking... well, Mexican beer... wait, is it May?

Anyway, no matter what country you're from, I hope you're able to celebrate the positives with the people you love.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans.

Honestly, lucky you that you are privileged enough that a large portion of the American population has been slowly losing their right to bodily autonomy, protection from unlawful searches of their homes, ability to demand retrials in the light of new evidence (these are all different decisions), and you can just say, “eh, screw it. It doesn’t affect me.”

That's honestly weirdly hostile, and I would like you to consider it in one of two different lights: one, and more lighthearted, is that this isn't a day to celebrate the USA, but that another piece of the British empire pulled away, helping to crumble its influence. Two, and more serious but no less optimistic: this is a chance to remember and celebrate the ideal for our country; liberty, justice, freedom, equality, hope. To remind ourselves what we are struggling for, and not merely what we are fighting against.

Again, for those who choose not to celebrate their country due to recent events, I get it. But I don't judge 330,000,000 people based on a handful of wrongly appointed judges flexing their control over a country when a majority of the nation is against their decisions. I celebrate the wins. We have the rest of the year to deal with the losses. Me sitting around pouting doesn't accomplish anything. Plus, my job is to make the world a brighter place with more titty. Whether or not recent events affect me directly isn't relevant.
